As the next chapter of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe continues development, new images shared by Sarah Michelle Gellar featuring Alyson Hannigan leave fans wondering if a television reboot reunion is imminent. While Gellar’s Buffy Summers took the lead as the slayer, Hannigan’s Willow Rosenberg transformed from her shy, nerdy best friend into a powerful Wiccan who assists Buffy against the forces of darkness. In February 2025, Gellar was confirmed to be doing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, with the pilot set to be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao.
Through her personal Instagram account, Gellar shared several photos of her reuniting with Hannigan:
In the posted black-and-white montage above, both Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars are smiling and posing for the camera against a blank background, with Gellar tagging the photo with the hashtag «OG». With the two stars reuniting and the caption, fans were left questioning in the comics whether the pair may be reuniting for the upcoming reboot.

Could Willow Help Guide A New Generation?
Currently, it is unclear whether the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot will unite the original cast, or if it will take its own direction with a new generation. In March, TV Line reported that a new lead referred to as «Nova,» who is closer in personality to Willow, would take up the mantle of slayer alongside her two friends. Meanwhile, Gellar’s Buffy would return, but would primarily have a recurring role instead as she mentors the next generation of heroes.
However, the character descriptions for the three new leads hint at where existing characters can play a role. With the new slayer «Nova» being closer in personality to Willow, an episode may see Buffy call upon her old friend to better understand how to approach her changes. Furthermore, bringing back existing characters would undoubtedly allow Nova’s friend Gracie to take prominence, as the character’s pitched personality is described to be an avid fan of the former Slayer and her adventures.

Alongside Gellar’s Buffy, James Marsters’ Spike, and David Boreanaz’s Angel, Willow is one of the most recognizable figures to emerge from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Alongside her growth in confidence and her later complexity as she battled with her own dark side, Willow resonated with many for being a positive representation of a Jewish woman, while her exploration of her sexuality gave many a character to whom they could relate. As such, Willow’s return would bring many fans back to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.
