Schedule I

Every year up until now, Minecraft hosted a ‘Mob Vote’, presenting three concepts to the community for a future update. Players then had to decide among themselves which should be added to the game, with the other two being axed completely.
Given how enormous Minecraft is, the vote was often swayed by hugely popular content creators and their vast audiences, so after countless complaints, as many felt their picks were unfairly left out, Mojang dropped the idea altogether.
But it lives on in spirit, as solo developer Tyler has rolled out a similar initiative for Schedule 1, asking you to vote between three potential updates. Players are taking it far better than the Minecraft community ever did, and for good reason.
Every Option In Schedule 1's Community Vote
When you next boot up the game, you’ll be presented with three options to pick from:
- Rival Cartel Update.
- Police Expansion Update.
- Shrooms Update.
«The voting period will run until this coming weekend, and I’ll announce the results shortly after that,» Tyler wrote in a Steam blog post. «You’ll also be able to see the results in-game in the main menu. I’m looking forward to getting [to] work on the next big thing for the game, so it’ll be great to make certain that my development plans align with what the community wants to see!»
A stark difference between the Schedule 1 community vote and the Mob Vote is that Tyler doesn’t say anywhere that only the winning update will be implemented to the game. Instead, it sounds like the winner will take priority, meaning that if you want to see the Police Expansion next, by Shrooms and Rival Cartel at a later date, then that’s what you’re voting for.
The community has run with this assumption, and on the subreddit, players are now debating what the most tactical order would be.
«I really hope people don’t go for the Shroom / Police update,» u/Inevitable-Ad-2551 said. «Get that third system with cartels to make it more wide THEN go further in depth w the systems.»
«I really want Shrooms first,» u/nonumberplease said. «But I know cartels is gonna take it. Still though, big ups to the developers who actually care what their audience wants.»
Raids will be cool for five seconds [then] just be annoying and frustrating after. I’d choose Cartel first — u/BluDYT.
«Logically it would be best to start off with [the] Cartel Update, so it makes the game more balanced and then other stuff,» u/ZipperSkipper said. «The Cartel has the most potential».
The Updates Are A Bit Vague, And Can Be "Whatever Tyler Wants"
While there’s a much healthier discussion brewing on the subreddit, there is one gripe that players have, and it’s just how vague these options are.
‘Shrooms’ doesn’t give much away, and ‘Police Expansion’ doesn’t exactly detail how they would be expanded. The only one that’s really clear is ‘Rival Cartel’, but even that could be «whatever Tyler wants».
As controversial as the Mob Vote was, every year, Mojang would include in-depth videos that broke down the unique features of each new addition, giving players a better idea of what they were voting for. But in Schedule 1’s case, it’s worth considering that this is a first attempt by a solo dev who might not have everything meticulously planned out. After all, these are much more involved updates than just new mobs. So, it’s hard to fault Tyler for leaving things more open-ended.
