Sentenced to Be a Hero isn’t dropping the ball with any of its episodes, and Episode 5 was an equally, if not more, exciting watch throughout.

Okay, so there have been a lot of little yet must-be-mentioned moments throughout today’s Sentenced to Be a Hero episode. Of course, the biggest one is what you can guess from the title. However, that will take quite some time to discuss, so I will come back to it shortly.
But before that, we’ve got Tsav’s little backstory, which was honestly cool (I can still hear Kazuma in him, though). It was another reminder of how terrifying the hero penalty is in this world. Then, during the scouting moment, guess what I noticed? Kivia was blushing while talking to Xylo! Man, I knew she had a thing for him!
Anyway, the next highlight was Studio KAI’s animation flex with Tsav’s sniper shot. It legit gave me goosebumps. Honestly, this Tsav guy turned out to be just as cool as I expected in my previous review. Also, on their way back, seeing the Ninth Goddess, Pelmerry, was totally unexpected. She was quite cute, though, I must admit.
Next, we had Teoritta’s tantrums again. Like, I get Xylo, but can’t he still praise her even a little? Just pat her head already. How can he ignore that adorable little thing? That said, things get serious from here on.
Even With Tsav, Xylo’s Hero Unit May Still Be Short on Manpower

Of course, Tsav joining Xylo’s hero party would increase their odds of surviving the upcoming demon blight crisis. Along with him, the miners from the tunnel arc also returned to assist them in their battle. Xylo, being a reasonable dude, urges them to go back to their families.
However, His Majesty appears on the scene. Yes, I mean Norgalle. Then, watching him speak and motivate everyone, they get even more pumped up to dedicate their lives to helping their saviors, basically Xylo, Norgalle, and Tatsuya. But that is not all, though.
Some of the thugs, as they seemed, were asked to guard the Mureed Fortress along with Xylo and the others. But they were initially a bunch of disobedient kids. Thanks to Tsav, though, they were tamed for a bit. He simply goes and cuts off one of their members’ hands!
Now I thought, with this many people gathered, surely the demon blight invasion could be successfully stopped once again, right? Like, the last time it was only Xylo, Tatsuya, and Norgalle who managed to put the previous Demon Lord to rest. But you know what? It is kind of funny how wrong I was, not knowing the bigger picture.
Demons Have Never Been the Real Villain in Sentenced to Be a Hero

Remember how Venetim was sentenced to be a hero? Well, he brings that up again in this episode with Xylo, right before their battle. Like, when he asked Xylo whether he believed in conspiracy theories, that was quite genius. Xylo still discards Venetim’s opinions, though.
However, it did not take long for Xylo to realize that Venetim might lie in his articles, but that does not necessarily mean they are always wrong. He is more like a good predictor. So, as their battle against the demon army commences, at first things go smoothly. But then Xylo and others see something unholy, something that we weren’t supposed to witness.
Among the demon blights, there were literal humans (not even infected ones), who were aiding the demons. Then all of a sudden, the tide turns in the demons’ favor, and the whole defense set by Norgalle & Xylo goes whoosh in the blink of an eye. Well, things are now looking really bad for the next episode & I do not think I am ready!
Sentenced to Be a Hero Episode 5: Final Verdict

As always, I have nothing but praise for Studio KAI’s animation in Sentenced to Be a Hero Episode 5. Every little detail is carefully drawn, and some of the soundtracks totally fit the series’ vibe. Also, the way the episode concludes is surely great from the director’s POV, but for us fans, it was cruel. The wait for the next episode is already killing me.
Sentenced to Be a Hero is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
