Slime Rancher 2 is full of the slimes players are already familiar with from the first game, and although not all slimes have returned, Slime Rancher 2 also introduces a handful of new slimes to capture and take care of.
Because Slime Rancher 2 is ever changing, here may be more brand-new or returning slimes added in future updates, but, as of writing, there are a total of 28 different types of slimes when not counting the many combinations of largo slimes you can produce.
Updated on April 15, 2025 by Emily McElroy: There have been plenty of new slimes added to the game since the game first launched. Beatrix may have come to the island in search of adventure, but they found plenty of slimes along the way. Whether you’re new to this kind of game, or you’re an old pro at management-style games, there are plenty of adorable slimes to catch. These are all the slimes in Slime Rancher 2, ranked.
28 Saber
Slime Location |
Powderfall Bluffs |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Thundercluck Hen |
What’s better than a Slime? A pre-historic Slime, of course. Saber Slimes were introduced to Slime Rancher 2 as long lost relatives of today’s modern Slimes. These furry, feral creatures are much faster than they look, which gives them an edge when hunting.
They can also roar and startle Slimes, allowing them to scare anyone away from their food. This can be useful for herding Slimes, but just make sure they aren’t sending them anywhere you don’t want them to.
27 Yolky
Spawn Location |
The Rainbow Fields, Starlight Strand, Ember Valley, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labyrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
None |
Now this is an egg-cellent Slime indeed. The Yolky Slime can only be found near chicken nests, making this Slime quite rare. It is one of the cuter Slimes with its egg-inspired design, and its cheerful little face will light up any ranch.
This Slime can cause chickens to lay massive eggs, which allows for multiple Chickadoos to hatch. This is obviously quite useful to those who want to farm Chickadoos.
26 Tangle
Spawn Location |
Everywhere During A Level 3 Pollen Storm |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Painted Hen |
Don’t get tangled up in this Slime. The Slimepedia entry notes that Tangle Slimes may look cute and sweet, but they’re ‘fearsome predators’ who can attack with vines and thorns. Keep them well fed to avoid any potential disasters.
Tangle Slimes are great for farming fruits and vegetables, as these objects can spawn from their plorts. Just make sure to keep an eye on them, as they can wander off — those tentacles can really cause some trouble.
25 Dervish
Spawn Location |
Everywhere During A Level 3 Wind Storm |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Prickle Pear |
Dervish Slimes are a breeze to raise — literally. These tiny tornadoes are adorable, but they can pack a punch. They show up whenever a wind storm happens, so it might be worth your time to adventure out in search of Dervishes.
When unhappy, these Slimes can make dangerous mini-tornadoes. While ranchers can’t be harmed by them, they can throw all sorts of other things around — including other Slimes and plorts. If you don’t want half the ranch tossed into the air, it is best to keep Dervish Slimes happy.
24 Twin
Spawn Location |
Grey Labyrinth (Prismacore Surroundings) |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Polaricherry |
Here’s a twisted little Slime — the Twin Slime, a delightful little combination of red and blue, is an adorable addition to any ranch. But they aren’t just cute — these little guys are quite powerful. They can create reality warping portals in the blink of an eye.
The portals these Slimes make are mostly used to grab snacks, but they can use them to move other objects around. Perhaps you will be able to put these portals to good use.
23 Sloomber
Spawn Location |
Grey Labyrinth (Dream Land) |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Candied Hen |
Few Slimes are as pretty as the Sloomber Slime. These Slimes look like beautiful pieces of cotton candy, and they are just as sweet. Sloomber Slimes are residents of Dream Land, and they bring a dreamy sort of energy to any ranch.
Sloomber Slimes have the ability to put other Slimes to sleep. This can be very annoying if you are looking to produce more plorts, but can also be helpful for stopping production of certain plorts.
22 Shadow
Spawn Location |
Grey Labyrinth (Entire Labyrinth) |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Special |
Favorite Food |
None |
Hello Darkness, our New Friend. While they may look frightening, the Shadow Slimes are as harmless as their brighter counterparts. Well, kind of. Shadow Slimes themselves aren’t dangerous, but they’ve been known to lead unwise ranchers into danger. Make sure to keep an eye out for trouble while chasing these Slimes.
Shadow plorts are useful for solving puzzles and, of course, for selling. Shadow Slimes will appear and vanish rapidly, so keep a watchful eye out for these most mysterious of Slimes.
21 Pink Slime
Spawn Location |
The Rainbow Fields, Ember Valley, Starlight Strand, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labryinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Any |
Named for their coloration, Pink Slimes are the easiest to find and are the de facto mascot of the series. Pink Slimes will eat anything, so they’re the easiest to feed. After being fed, they will produce Pink Plorts, which net the smallest amount of money.
It’s best to make sure you don’t have too many Pink Slimes without proper containment, since they may end up eating your crops and livestock. These happy little guys don’t mean any harm by it; they just get hungry, but it’s quite easy for new ranchers to keep them well-fed, contained, and generally happy.
20 Cotton Slime
Spawn Location |
The Rainbow Fields, Starlight Strand, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labyrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Water Lettuce |
These rabbit-like slimes are known for being the highest jumpers, meaning they can escape enclosures when they aren’t adequately equipped with preventative measures such as higher walls and an air net.
Cotton Slimes have a diet of veggies, and although you might expect carrots to be their favorite food, it’s actually water lettuce which is not quite as common, but still easily obtainable. Cotton Slimes produce Cotton Plorts when fed, giving you a useful material to craft with.
19 Phosphor Slime
Spawn Location |
(Only at night) The Rainbow Fields, Starlight Strand, Ember Valley, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Cuberry |
Phosphor Slimes are reminiscent of fireflies and only appear at night. Due to their bioluminescence, Phosphor Slimes can be easy to spot once they start appearing. Phosphor Slimes only eat fruit, with their favorite being Cuberries.
Unlike many other slimes, Phosphor Slimes, related Largo Slimes, and Phosphor Plorts are affected by sunlight. They will disappear if exposed to it for too long, so keeping them in an area not exposed to sunlight is recommended. High Walls and Air Nets are also a must for any corral filled with Phosphor Slimes, since they can use their wings to jump out.
18 Tabby Slime
Spawn Location |
The Rainbow Fields, Starlight Strand, Ember Valley |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Stony Hen |
The first of the feline-based slimes, these gray cat-like slimes only eat meat, so the easiest way to keep them well-fed and happy is by having a chicken coop filled with plenty of Hen Hens and Roostros. If they escape their corral, they won’t only end up eating what’s in the chicken coop, but will also steal veggies and fruits from nearby gardens.
Their stealing may also cause Largos to appear and cause even more trouble. Tabby Plorts are used for performance-enhancing products and, as such, can net a decent amount of money early on.
17 Largo Slime
Spawn Location |
When a normal slime eats a plort that is unlike its own. |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Hostile or Docile |
Favorite Food |
Varies |
Largo Slimes are giant slimes that have consumed a plort they do not produce, causing them to grow and take on characteristics of the producer of said plort. Due to their size, Largo Slimes cannot fit in the Vacpack and instead only reach the nozzle, so they can still be moved.
Largo Slimes will produce two different types of plorts when fed: the plort it originally produced, and whatever type of plort it ate to become a Largo. When fed their favorite foods, Largo Slimes will produce two of each plort.
16 Feral Slime
Spawn Location |
Any |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Hostile |
Favorite Food |
Same As Source Slime |
Any Largo Slimes that haven’t eaten in a long time will become Feral Slimes and behave more aggressively as a result. It’s easy to tell when a Largo Slime has become feral as their facial expression changes, their eyes become red, and red sparks will be seen around them.
Unlike Tarr Slimes, Feral Slimes don’t reproduce and can be easily satiated by being fed. Feeding Feral Slimes will also cause them to produce plorts as they would when not in a Feral state. Feral Slimes can also still become Tarr as any Largo can, so appetite management is a must.
15 Tarr Slime
Spawn Location |
When a Largo slime eats a plort that is unlike its own |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Hostile |
Favorite Food |
Ranchers |
If a Largo Slime eats a plort it doesn’t produce, it will turn into a Tarr Slime. Tarr Slimes are hostile slimes that eat other slimes to create more Tarr Slime, which causes an outbreak. They may seem nocturnal due to their appearance, but can appear anytime.
If there’s no way to obtain fresh water to eliminate them, then the only ways are to throw them into the sea or incinerate them, which is easier said than done when dealing with an outbreak. The appearance of Tarr Slimes can also be disabled in the options for those who want a more casual experience.
14 Gordo Slime
Spawn Location: |
Caught on a Gordo Snare |
---|---|
Slime Type: |
Docile/Special |
Favorite Food: |
Source Slime |
Gordo Slimes are another type of giant slime, but unlike Largo Slimes, they are stationary and are usually seen blocking entrances to pathways or small areas with essential items. Gordo Slimes are what happens when a large group of the same type of slime all gather in one place, and once it’s fed enough food, it will burst back into the slimes it consisted of.
Gordo Slimes have the same diet as whatever slimes they’re made of, but don’t produce any plorts from eating.
13 Rock Slime
Spawn Location |
Starlight Strand, Ember Valley, Powderfall luffs, Grey Labyrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Harmful |
Favorite Food |
Heart Beets |
Rock Slimes aren’t slimes made of rock, but rather blue slimes named for the rocky spikes of their heads. Rock Slimes also enjoy rolling around, and while they mean no harm by it, they can end up hurting any ranchers who happen to be in their path. Rock Slimes don’t eat rocks either, but instead, prefer to eat veggies like Heartbeets.
This means that having Rock Slimes in a corral can be dangerous when collecting Rock Plorts, a valuable resource used to create the durable yet lightweight blue metal alloy, so it’s best to have a plort collector on their corral.
12 Honey Slime
Spawn Location |
Starlight Strand |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Mint Mango |
Honey Slimes are slimes that look like they’re made of honey, and the substance their bodies are made of is strangely similar as well. It has been speculated that their diet of fruits like Mint Mangoes has caused their cells to replicate the natural sugars, affecting both their appearance and the plorts they produce.
Because of their sweetness, Honey Plorts are commonly used as an ingredient, and when refined, they become almost too sweet for human consumption. The biggest drawback of wrangling up Honey Slimes is that other nearby slimes will go after their plorts, becoming Largos or Tarr as a result.
11 Gold Slime
Spawn Location |
Everywhere |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Special |
Favorite Food |
None |
Gold Slimes are impossible to capture and the hardest to find, but they will produce gold plorts if a rancher hits them with any plort or food. When Gold Slimes appear, a sparkle sound effect will be heard, but they are speedy and will run away when they see a rancher nearby. Gold Slimes have no favorite food in Slime Rancher 2, but previously would only eat Gilded Ginger.
Unlike most other slimes, Gold Slimes cannot be eaten by Tarr Slimes, although having a Gold Slime appear at the same time as a Tarr outbreak is still a hectic event to deal with.
10 Hunter Slime
Spawn Location |
Starlight Strand, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Docile |
Favorite Food |
Roostro |
Hunter Slimes are another type of feline-inspired slime related to Tabby Slimes, but are much rarer. Hunter Slimes get their name from their unique cloaking ability, which makes every part of their bodies invisible except their eyes. Like Tabby Slimes, Hunter Slimes prefer to eat chickens, with Roostros being their favorite food.
Due to the wild nature of Hunter Slimes, any Hunter Largo will become feral once it’s created. While not used to make any material, plorts produced by Hunter Slimes are notable in that they can be used for a serum that grants anyone who takes it temporary invisibility.
9 Boom Slime
Spawn Location |
Ember Valley, Powderfall Bluffs, Grey Labyrinth |
---|---|
Slime Type |
Harmful |
Favorite Food |
Briar Hen |
Boom Slimes are slimes that take on a magma-like appearance and are primarily known for exploding. The cause of their constant exploding is their slime cells, which always vibrate and overwhelm the slime with energy. A Bloom Slime’s explosions are not harmful to it, however, and the only side effect is that they may be temporarily stunned.
While Boom Slimes can be difficult and even dangerous for ranchers to contain, an experienced rancher can use them to collect Boom Plorts, which are used for all kinds of explosive technology like rocket thrusters, and may even be helpful for medical technology.
