Indie Spotlight – This fan project is the real deal, and it’s free to download. It’s the Daredevil game we deserve.
itch.io has become a go-to spot for indie devs to get noticed, with games like Undertale, Celeste, and Night in the Woods showing just how much success can come from there. If you’re hunting for hidden gems, that’s where you’ll find them. And I think I’ve found one. It’s a free, non-profit fan game based on my second favorite Marvel hero, Daredevil (Silver Surfer will always be #1 for me – seriously, can we get a proper game with him already?). But anyway, back to it: Daredevil game is up for grabs, so we can all experience what we should’ve gotten long ago.
A free Daredevil fan game that nails it
The last Daredevil game was released back in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, so you can probably imagine how that looked. And even if you love retro games as much as I do, we definitely deserve something more modern.
We almost got it, too – Daredevil: The Man Without Fear was in the works for PS2, Xbox, and PC, but it got scrapped in 2004 thanks to creative clashes between Marvel and Sony. Since then, we’ve just been hoping some studio would step up, especially after the TV show blew up in 2015. But nope.
Luckily, the wait is over, sort of. MrKnowBody with a collaboration with Haez made a free Daredevil game and put it on itch.io. And it’s not even MrKnowBody’s first project, he also worked on a Deadpool Game.
It’s a stealth game, which you probably expected, but we can totally go in loud if we feel like it. We’ve got his devil sense, quiet takedowns, and trusty Billy Club for some extra damage. Honestly though, the regular attacks hit hard enough on their own. And the finisher animations are way better than I expected.
Sure, it’s just one simple mission where we’re rescuing a hostage, but it’s exactly the kind of thing we’ve been hoping for. Can a big studio please take a look at this and finally give Daredevil the proper game he deserves, especially now that the TV series is back (don’t you dare cancel it again, I swear!). And maybe hire these devs while they’re at it – they clearly get what we want.
Anyway, just had to share this with the world. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m heading back in to try unlocking the Born Again achievement.
