The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has many TV shows, but its Isekai is, without a doubt, a 10-out-of-10 masterpiece from beginning to end. Many great video games have grown into sprawling franchises, but few are as beloved and expansive as Sonic the Hedgehog.
Not only are there at least 15 mainline games, but there are over 100, including spinoffs. They have created books and comics for the readers in the fandom. There are web series and animated short films. TV lovers can enjoy the seven shows. Movie fanatics now have three excellent live-action Sonic movies to watch, with a fourth on the way.
With so many different formats to enjoy, it’s hard to know what to watch, play, or read next. I know, as a Sonic fan, I often feel both awe and overwhelm at the vastness. However, for all of you trying to decide on your next Sonic adventure, the best choice is to watch Sonic X, the Isekai anime TV show, which is a complete masterpiece.
Sonic X Is Pretty Much An Isekai
Sonic X is essentially an Isekai anime. The first two seasons reverse the typical concept by bringing fantasy characters into our ordinary world. He uses his unique abilities from his old life to overcome challenges. From Sonic and his friends’ perspective, they would be going through the Isekai experience; even from our perspective, it’s a reverse isekai.
Then, in Sonic X season 3, it becomes more of a “true” Isekai when Sonic’s friend Chris from Earth, who is now 16 years old, completes a portal to reunite with Sonic and his friends on their fantasy home planet.
He reverts to his 12-year-old body when he arrives on the new planet, but he retains all his memories and knowledge, which come in handy when he, Sonic, and the gang all go into outer space to find the Chaos Emeralds and defeat the Metarex.
Sonic X Is The Perfect Show To Watch While Waiting For Sonic 4
While there are multiple Sonic TV shows, Sonic X is the best choice to watch while waiting for Sonic 4, which should come in 2027. Of all the shows, it’s the only one that shares the basic premise, and it explores extremely similar themes of belonging and responsibility.
Sonic and his friends are transported to our world. What’s more, Chris is the closest thing Sonic has ever had to a human family in the franchise, besides Maddie and Tom Wachowski. On top of that, Sonic, his friends, and his family spend their time trying to fight off the problems they brought with them when they came to Earth.
Why Sonic X Is The Best TV Show In The Franchise
Ask any hardcore Sonic fan out there what the best Sonic TV show is, and they will almost all say Sonic X. As a franchise fan myself, I have to full-heartedly agree.

Unlike other TV shows, Sonic X has the most accurate character portrayals for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the rest of the gang. They even keep Sonic’s cool, cocky persona, which is something the Sonic movies changed.
The show features beat-for-beat game storylines while adding scenes that show what the gang does in their downtime. The anime art style is very enjoyable and holds up surprisingly well for a show that ended two decades ago.
All things considered, Sonic X is an absolute masterpiece, and I’m not just saying that because of the nostalgia of watching it back when it came out. The show truly deserves that title.
