Helldiver 2 fan short film got taken down on YouTube recently, and many believed Sony was behind it. Here's what actually happened.

If you’re a Helldivers 2 fan and have been scrolling YouTube, then you must have come across the “For Liberty” fan film. Alas, the original release of the film was taken down, which has disheartened many, and you’d be as well if you check the trailer yourself.
The high-quality production of the fan film was something that made it stand out, but now there’s no way to watch it. While many fans jumped ship to blame Sony, it wasn’t the case this time.
Sony Isn’t to Blame for the Fan Film Takedown

“For Liberty” was created by Plot Coalition, and it captured the Helldivers 2 experience in a cinematic way to showcase the lives of Divers. Fans claimed that Sony was the culprit behind the takedown because the quality was too good, and made Sony look like an average nobody.
While many expect a big corpo controlling content flow, that isn’t the case here because the creator spoke up about the matter on Reddit. Plot Coalition stated that there’s no confirmation on Sony taking down the fan film; instead, it might be YouTube itself. This is what they stated:
We have no confirmation that Sony was involved in the removal. This appears to be an automatic system with YouTube itself that flagged that the film was made available to download for free. An appeal has been made to reinstate it.
The creators believe YouTube automatically blocked the film because it was made available for download at no cost. YouTube uses a similar feature for avoiding piracy of films, but in this case, it was the creators themselves. So the appeal might get considered.

Helldiver 2 Fan Film Was Too Good to Be Taken Down

Right now, there’s no way to see the full “For Liberty” completely, but if you look at the trailer, you’d understand that it was too glorious to be taken down. The cinematic way of showing Terminids popping up, or the Automatons powering up to be a menace to the democracy, was simply perfect.
Anyone who has played Helldivers 2 would know how exactly those situations feel, and the film showcased that brilliantly. If you have a friend who hasn’t played the game yet, this would surely pique their interest.
Regardless, the quality of the fan film was too good to be considered a “fan project.” Let’s hope YouTube reassesses the situation and lets the creators release it once more without false flags, because being taken down isn’t the fate it deserves.
