Nintendo has announced Splatoon Raiders, the first spin-off title in the franchise, which will be an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2. An update for Splatoon 3 was also revealed, one that will add new content and will improve the visuals on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Splatoon trilogy consists of multiplayer-focused titles, with some single-player elements that primarily function as tutorials for the gameplay systems. The DLC expansions tend to offer more substantial solo content, with more lore information about the characters and the Splatoon world.
In a surprise move, Nintendo has randomly revealed Splatoon Raiders on the Nintendo Today app, before uploading the trailer to YouTube. This new game is a spin-off featuring characters from Splatoon 3, as they step away from ink battles and go exploring.

Splatoon Raiders only has a brief trailer, revealing that players are controlling a character called the “Mechanic,” who helps the Deep Cut Trio as they explore the Spirhalite Islands. It’s currently unclear whether this is a multiplayer game, or whether it will Splatoon’s first ever fully solo game.
Additionally, Nintendo announced that a free update for Splatoon 3 is coming on June 12. This update adds 30 new weapon kits, the return of the Urchin Underpass stage from the first game, a raise on weapon Freshness caps, and a new stat for the Anarchy Battle mode that rates players’ effectiveness and matches them with people of a similar skill level. The update also improves the visuals on Switch 2.
It’s surprising that Nintendo just shadow-dropped this news a few days after the Switch 2 launch, rather than including it as one of the announcements during the system’s first Direct. Splatoon is one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, especially in the modern era, and it deserves a bigger spotlight than a random announcement.
