In just a few months, Starfield will celebrate its two-year anniversary. After what felt like a lifetime of waiting, Bethesda’s most recent title didn’t particularly set the world on fire like its contemporaries in Skyrim or Fallout did. Late last year, its Shattered Space expansion wasn’t particularly well-received, with «Mostly Negative» reviews populating on its Steam page.
While rumors of a port to Sony’s PlayStation 5 continue to swirl, it feels like so much of the hype that Starfield once had has migrated to the recent Oblivion remaster or other recently released titles. As a result, the modding scene for Starfield is apparently in a dire situation.
The Mod Community Is Moving On From Starfield At A Rapid Rate
As first spotted by PC Gamer, creators of the Starfield Community Patch, a collaborative mod that sought to fix bugs, errors and other inconsistencies within Starfield, have not created a new update since September of last year. Previously, updates were being pushed on an almost monthly basis.
As it turns out, the project’s stewards do not have «the time or motivation to curate the patch anymore,» according to a community post on the project’s Nexus Mods page. While one modder, Pickysaurus, has shared that the adoption of a new puppy has impacted their desire to tinker on a PC, the situation for other creators is apparently more serious.
«Other members of the team have found themselves disenchanted with the game for various reasons — lack of replay-ability, the paid modding situation, moved on to playing new games, etc.,» the post noted.
Moving forward, the team is opening up the floor for anyone in the community to take over as the project’s Community Lead. However, if nobody were to take on the endeavor, it’s possible that «we may have to retire the project and direct users to Arthmoor’s patch going forwards.»
Yet, as PC Gamer noted in its report, Arthmoor’s patch has also been silent as of late, with its last update being in December with seemingly nothing in the time since then. Unless another creator steps forward, it appears that Starfield’s community scene will simply slowly fade into obscurity.
