Super rare Boba Fett action figure fetches .3 million at auction

A Star Wars superfan has purchased a rare Boba Fett action figure for $1.3 million dollars, breaking the Guinness World Record.

Star Wars memorabilia can be auctioned off at incredibly high prices. According to the Guinness World Records, a prop gun fetched over $1 million, while an original poster for the first film sold for almost $4 million.

Action figures are another beloved piece of memorabilia for fans of the franchise, and these too can rack up high prices. The previous highest-selling figure was a vintage Kenner Palitoy Star Wars Return of the Jedi Bib Fortuna Prototype Resin Master Tooling Aid which sold for just shy of $50,000.

Only three of these Boba Fett figures exist today

A 1979 Rocket-Firing Boba Fett action figure, made by Kenner, is claimed to be “one of the most sought-after and valuable items from the original Star Wars toy line.”

The action figure was auctioned off by Goldin Auctions, and was sold to a Star Wars fan for $1,342,000, breaking the Guinness World Record for most expensive Star Wars action figure sold at auction.

Guinness World RecordsThe certificate of authenticity reveals that the figure comes with his signature armor and weapon.

The price tag is due to its status as a prototype, of which only 30 were ever made. They were not mass-produced because they were believed to be a safety hazard for children.

Now, years on from their production, it’s believed that only three of these figures exist today. The specimen that broke the record was graded the highest out of the three.
