Superman actor Rachel Brosnahan leaps into another major role as her superhero film debut approaches. The Emmy-winning actor is set to lead Season 2 of the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ legal thriller, Presumed Innocent.
Per Variety, Brosnahan has been cast in the lead role for Presumed Innocent Season 2, portraying attorney Leila Reynolds. Brosnahan, who stars as Lois Lane opposite David Corenswet’s Clark Kent in the DC Universe’s upcoming Superman reboot, will also be an executive producer on the next season of Presumed Innocent.
Brosnahan has serious clout on the small screen, earning an Emmy nomination for the beloved Netflix drama, House of Cards, and appearing in notable shows such as Manhattan and The Blacklist. Her most successful role was as New York housewife turned stand-up comedian Miriam «Midge» Maisel in the hit Amazon Prime Video period comedy-drama, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, winning two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy for her performances.
Apple TV's Presumed Innocent Isn't the First Adaptation
Based on Scott Turow’s eponymous 1987 novel, Presumed Innocent debuted last year as Apple TV+’s most-watched drama, starring Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal as prosecutor Rusty Sabich, who becomes the suspect in the murder of his colleague turned mistress. Lauded as one of the best legal dramas in recent memory, Presumed Innocent Season 1 garnered a 76% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe nod for Gyllenhaal. The series is the second adaptation of Turow’s novel, after the Harrison Ford-led 1990 movie of the same name.
Apple TV+ renewed Presumed Innocent for a second season last July. However, Season 2 won’t be adapting Turow’s book. Instead, the next season will be based on Jo Murray’s debut legal thriller novel, Dissection of a Murder, which hits shelves next year. Though there’s no official logline for Presumed Innocent Season 2, a description of Murray’s book lays out the idea. «When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her,” the description, via publisher Pan McMillan, reads.
Brosnahan’s Superman, directed and written by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, is the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The upcoming tentpole, projected for a big opening weekend, also stars Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Carrigan, Wendell Pierce, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion and Edi Gathegi.
Superman opens in theaters on Jul. 11. Meanwhile, Season 2 of Presumed Innocent has no release window, though fans can stream Season 1 in its entirety on Apple TV+.
