Tavern Keeper The Harvest Festival Walkthrough

It’s time to get moving with our Tavern Keeper The Harvest Festival Walkthrough! In this guide, we’ll tell you how to successfully complete the second scenario and unlock Gugamush. Let’s dive in!

Set Up a Basic Tavern

As always, we’ll start with setting up a basic tavern: 1 employee, a Tap, a table, a barrel or two of local liquor, and a modestly-sized Taproom. If you followed our walkthrough for the first scenario, you know what to do by now.

Place the Welcome Basket

Shortly after opening, a Halfling will visit and give you a Welcome Basket. This is a decoration; decorations improve patron happiness, especially when they’re near areas they frequent.

Place the Welcome Basket on top of a table or near the entrance so it’s seen by as many patrons as possible.

Reach a 1-star Tavern Rating

Your next major objective is to reach a 1-star Tavern Rating. Hover over the stars below your tavern’s name at the top of the screen and you’ll see what you need to do in order to advance to a 1-star tavern; it’s as easy as following the checklist.

Try the Patron Attraction Board

The Patron Attraction Board has two functions: it gives you hints about patrons who will visit soon and it allows you to invite groups to arrive at specific times. It’s pretty straightforward, so try it out and keep moving.

Reach a 2-star Tavern Rating

Your next major task is to reach a 2-star Tavern Rating. As before, work on following the checklist, but there’s an important caveat: do not accept your second star right away. You’ll need to buy some specialized equipment for the next objective, so try to have at least 300 gold in savings or so.

Getting up to will also come with a lot more customers. You should ensure that you have at least 1 of each employee (Server, Dogbody, Janitor, and Chef). If your server isn’t able to get orders to patrons quickly, hire a second server. If the tavern is perpetually messy, hire a second Janitor.

Ultimately, you’ll want something like 3 servers, 2 Janitors, 2 Dogsbodies, and 1 Chef in the near future. Toward the end of the scenario, you may need to hire a second chef and add a second Food Window to keep up with demand for meals.

Prepare for a Possible Fire

You have a hint that a fire is incoming, and it’s time to prepare: you’ll have to build Firefighting Gear in your tavern.

If fire spreads, it can cut off access to other parts of your tavern. It’s a good idea to place at least 3 or 4 Firefighting Gears around the tavern in different locations. When a fire does break out, employees will run for the nearest Firefighting Gear to fight the flames.

Firefighting Gear can and does run out, so you’ll also want to buy at least 1 spare Extinguisher Barrel for each Firefighting Gear you have in your tavern. These refills are kept in the Storeroom like your other goods.

The Tap Story Book | Handle the Fire

Once you’ve built the Firefighting Gear, you’ll see a Story Book over one of your Taps. Take care to save the game before clicking on this — this Story Book event will start a fire.

You essentially have two important choices in this Story Book. First, a skill check when the fire breaks out:

  • Smother the fire (Wits)
  • Throw something at the cloaked figure’s head (Dexterity)

Smothering the fire appears to reduce the size of the fire when it spawns. However, throwing something at the cloaked figure’s head appears to increase your chances of catching the arsonist and earning a little money.

Your second choice is this:

  • Throw the water at the fire
  • Try to catch the intruder (Dexterity)

Once again, the first choice appears to decrease the starting spawn size of the fire and the second choice appears to increase your chances of catching the intruder.

When this Story Book is done, a fire will break out and your employees will automatically begin fighting it. If you’re lucky, there will be no major damage. If you chose to go after the intruder, you’ll get a small amount of gold as compensation for the damage.

Interact with the Tap a second time after the fire in order to end this particular plotline (and collect your compensation, if you made the choice to go after the arsonist).

An Entertaining Idea

Your next major task is to hire an entertainer. Entertainers are sometimes necessary to fully satisfy Patron Groups brought in on the Patron Attraction Board, but that is not their only benefit.

An active entertainer distracts your patrons. This, in turn, greatly increases their patience, giving your Servers more time to bring them food and drink. Consider occasionally investing in entertainers if things are getting too hectic in your tavern.

This is one of your last chances to hold off on completing an objective before the Harvest Festival begins. If you want to win the Harvest Festival and complete a challenge, you’ll need a specialized strategy; check out our Best in Show Challenge Guide to learn how to do it.

If you wish to hold off on trying to win the Harvest Festival for now, you should save your game here with a unique name so you can come back to this point later and complete the Best in Show Challenge.

Build Voting Booths

The Harvest Festival is approaching, and you’ll need to build Voting Booths. You only need to build two, but I recommend building four in separate locations to cut down on any voting lines.

Prepare for the Harvest Festival

It’s finally time to prepare for the Harvest Festival. You have a long list of objectives, many of which are optional:

  • (Optional) Have 1 Stage
  • (Optional) Have at least 4 taps
  • (Optional) Have at least 4 bar counters
  • (Optional) Have at least 4 tables
  • (Optional) Have at least 40 Nectars
  • (Optional) Have Food on the Menu available to order
  • (Optional) Have at least 8 staff
  • Wait for the festival to begin (# days remaining)

I strongly recommend completing all of these optional objectives. They’ll help you successfully complete the Harvest Festival and prevent too many patrons from getting upset.

The Guild Competition

Finally, it’s time for the Guild Competition. If you’re just out to beat this scenario and move on to Gugamush, you can just run your tavern as normal and not worry about it too much.

If, however, you want to win the Guild Competition, you’ll want to use the specialized strategy we cover in our Best in Show Challenge Guide.

Ending the Harvest Festival

You’ll impress the Tavern Keepers Guild once again after the Harvest Festival ends. You clearly know how to run a tavern, and they have an even greater challenge for you — it’s time to move on to the Orcish land of Gugamush for the «Orcish Ambitions» scenario. Good luck!
