If looks could kill…

It doesn’t take much to make millions of people laugh — sometimes, all you need is one incredibly unimpressed owl. Texas TikTok creator Jackie Santillan has gone viral after sharing a video of herself staring down the bird, whose expression appears to grow progressively angrier with each passing second. The lighthearted clip has racked up millions of views, with viewers unable to get enough of the owl’s increasingly grumpy reaction.

The Houston-based content creator typically shares parenting and neurodiversity content, but one of her latest videos is a little bit different. In the clip, Jackie is filming herself approaching an owl in what appears to be a bird sanctuary. “Hello, gorgeous.” she says, as she gets closer, before reacting with surprise as the owl suddenly locks eyes with her.
Initially, the owl seems calm, slowly blinking as the woman admires it. But as the clip continues, its expression appears to grow steadily more unimpressed. “You are not pleased with me. I understand. Fair enough,” she laughs. As the owl continues staring her down, someone nearby jokes, “You’re being rude,” prompting the woman to burst into laughter and reply, “I love it.”
The lighthearted clip soon racked up millions of views and thousands of likes, with commenters having plenty of fun imagining what the owl was thinking.
Viewers Couldn’t Stop Laughing
TikTok users quickly began imagining what the owl was thinking. One person joked, “im officially convinced something emits from our phones when recording bc animals seem to HATE it 😭” while another laughed, “I didn’t think it could get worse but it kept getting worse 😂😂😂.”
Others imagined the owl growing increasingly fed up with the encounter. One commenter wrote, “it was like ‘youre…still…here…’” while another related the bird’s expressions to everyday life, joking, “how fast my mood changes when im on my period.”
A few viewers also offered their own explanation for the owl’s behavior. “Owls are cat software on bird hardware. If the eyes are wide, it wants a bite or run. Narrow eyes means they’re comfy in your presence,” one person claimed.
Whether the owl was actually annoyed or simply happened to pull a series of perfectly timed expressions, one thing is certain: it gave millions of people a good laugh without making a single sound.
