10 Grausam the Miraculous

Grausam, a member of the Seven Sages of Destruction who specialized in mental magic. He does not possess the destructive output of some others on this list, but his ability to manipulate minds makes him a terrifying opponent for anyone without specific defenses.

Grausam’s signature magic allowed him to trap his opponents in blissful, unbreakable illusions. During his battle with the Hero Party, he managed to ensnare both Frieren and Himmel, a feat that almost ended their journey right there.

9 Himmel the Hero

Himmel the Hero defied all logic. He possessed no mana and wielded a replica sword, yet he stood toe-to-toe with the most powerful entities in history and won. Fate itself said that he wouldn’t be the one to defeat the demon lord, as he couldn’t pull the sword of the hero out. However, he did kill the demon lord. As far as heroes go, Himmel is the best Hero.

He was fast enough to blitz demons before they could visualize their spells and tough enough to withstand attacks that would vaporize ordinary warriors. More importantly, his willpower was an absolute weapon. He represents the peak of human potential, proving that you don’t need magic to be one of the strongest.

8 Frieren

With over a thousand years of training, she is undoubtedly one of the greatest mages to ever live. She is may very well be the strongest mage of current era. Her specialty lies in analyzing and dismantling demon magic, making her the perfect counter to their kind.

By constantly suppressing her mana, she lures demons into a false sense of security before obliterating them. She is a master tactician, but against opponents who can see through her tricks or simply overpower her defenses, she can be pushed to her limits.

7 Solitär

Solitär is a “Nameless Great Demon,” a title that implies she never sought fame or rank, yet her power rivals that of the Seven Sages. Unlike most demons who rely solely on their unique innate magic, Solitär took the time to study human magic, making her a double threat.

Her mana control is comparable to Frieren’s, but her application is far more lethal in direct combat. In their encounter, Solitär analyzed and dismantled Frieren’s defenses with shocking ease. Solitär represents what happens when a demon stops being arrogant and starts learning.

6 Schlacht the Omniscient

Schlacht’s true danger came from his magic: the ability to see the future. He could visualize a thousand years into the timeline. This essentially gave him precognition, making him nearly impossible to hit. His battle with the Hero of the South is legendary; although Schlacht died, he successfully orchestrated a mutual kill against humanity’s strongest warrior.

5 Macht of the Golden Land

Upon activation of Diagoldze, Macht can turn an entire city into indestructible gold. He destroyed the barriers of the highest-ranking mages without effort. Even Frieren admitted she could not defeat him in a direct fight. It took decades of research, a specific counter-spell, and a team effort just to create an opening to take him down.

4 Flamme

The legendary human mage and the mentor to Frieren, Flamme, is the reason magic exists in its current form. She was human and thus limited by a shorter lifespan and smaller mana pool compared to elves, but her genius was unparalleled.

She was the one who taught Frieren the art of mana suppression. Her barrier magic was so advanced that even a thousand years later, her defensive spells remain unbreakable by modern standards.

3 The Hero of the South

Before Himmel, there was the Hero of the South. He was humanity’s greatest hope. His crowning achievement was a battle that defies belief. He fought all seven Sages of Destruction and Schlacht the Omniscient at the same time. You already know how strong some of them are if you’ve read this far.

She is the only living mage capable of defeating a threat like Macht single-handedly, simply because she possesses the raw power to overwhelm his curse. Her visualisation is absolute; she cannot imagine herself losing to a demon.

1 The Demon King

At the very top sits the Demon King, the entity that made the summoning of heroes necessary in the first place. For over a thousand years, he ruled from Ende, commanding the Sages and orchestrating the destruction of the world.

While we have seen little of him directly, his standing is cemented by the scale of the effort required to defeat him. It took the combined peak strength of Himmel, Frieren, Eisen, and Heiter to bring him down. He commanded the absolute loyalty of monsters like Macht and Schlacht, implying his power far exceeded theirs.
