The 5 Most Evil Dragon Ball Super Villains, Ranked

Every good story needs a fantastic villain. Without a good villain, the heroes’ victories feel hollow and meaningless. Dragon Ball is the perfect example of this. While Goku and the Z-Fighters are legendary, the anime’s villains often steal the spotlight, making viewers tune in every week hoping to see them finally get their Kamehameha-flavored comeuppance.

Dragon Ball Super kept this tradition alive, pitting Goku and Vegeta against a whole new roster of bad guys, all keen to bring their evil plans to fruition. Between the newly revived Frieza and Goku Black, Dragon Ball Super has no shortage of pure evil villains who put DBZ‘s antagonists to shame.

5 Magenta Is A Fool Who Doesn't Care About The People He Hurts

While Mostly A Gag Character, Magenta's Final Actions Reveal A Dark Soul

The 5 Most Evil Dragon Ball Super Villains, Ranked

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero introduces several new characters to the Dragon Ball canon. Magenta is the son of Commander Red and the leader of the newly restored Red Ribbon Army. After Piccolo, Pan, and Gohan push back the Red Ribbon Army’s troops, Carmine & Magenta panic and plot their retreat. Before they can get too far, Carmine shoots at Pan, causing Gamma 1 & Gamma 2 to realize they’re working for the villains and team up with Gohan & Piccolo. Realizing his plan is doomed, Magenta starts to run toward the lab, planning to release Cell Max.

Dr. Hedo warns against this, reminding Magenta that the beast’s mind control is unfinished, meaning they can’t control it once it’s freed. Alas, Magenta ignores this warning and shoots Dr. Hedo before finally freeing Cell Max, allowing the beast to go on a rampage. Freeing Cell Max is one of the most evil and heartless actions in Dragon Ball history. Magenta’s decision to release Cell Max isn’t part of a well-thought-out world-domination plot.

He knows that his army is losing and that he can’t control or direct the monster once it’s released, and they have no way of turning the chaos it causes into power. Instead, the action represents Magenta throwing a tantrum and declaring that if he can’t have his way, everyone else must suffer, no matter the consequences. While this is an evil and selfish act, Magenta sits at the back of the pack because his lack of power and screen time means he gets overshadowed by Dragon Ball Super’s other villains.

4 Goku Black & Zamasu Are A Gruesome Twosome

Goku Black and Zamasu Aim To Eliminate Every Single Mortal In Existence

The «Future» Trunks saga is one of Dragon Ball Super’s most talked-about sagas, and it’s easy to see why, as the arc features two of Dragon Ball’s most fascinating villains: Goku Black & Zamasu. Goku Black and Zamasu’s main motivation is to eradicate all mortals and gods from the multiverse, a scheme they dub «Project Zero Mortals.» They believe mortals ruin the universe, and are enabled by the gods who have not done enough to keep them in check, meaning the only way to clean the universe is to exterminate both.

The pair have a massive amount of blood on their hands, as they’ve wiped out the nearly all of humanity in Future Trunk’s timeline, even claiming the lives of some of Dragon Ball’s most beloved characters. What makes Goku Black and Zamasu truly terrifying is how justified they feel about their actions. They constantly gloat about their successes and speak about their aims reverently, making it clear they are fanatically devoted to their cause. Goku Black & Zamasu can’t understand how disgusting they are, making them extremely dangerous, especially since they have the power to back up their words and take down any warrior who tries to stand up to them.

3 Frieza Continues His Evil Ways

The Galactic Tyrant Continues His Life Of Villainy In Dragon Ball Super

Frieza is one of Dragon Ball’s most iconic and best-known villains. Since his debut in Dragon Ball Chapter 247 «Planet Namek, Cold and Dark,» Frieza has made it clear he’s willing to do whatever it takes to control the galaxy. When Frieza returns in Dragon Ball Super’s Golden Frieza saga, he quickly proves that he has not softened with time.

After Frieza is returned to life by Sorbet’s wish on the Dragon Balls, he vows revenge on Goku, embarking on an intense training regimen to boost his power. When he eventually goes toe-to-toe with Goku, Frieza’s arrogance is again his undoing as he loses battle. However, in a rage, Frieza decides to destroy Earth, killing every being on the planet. While Whis turns back time (allowing Goku to kill Frieza before he launches the attack), it doesn’t undo how heartless this move is.

Even this didn’t make Frieza drop his evil ways. When he returns during Dragon Ball Super: Broly, he quickly dives into a new plan (collecting the Dragon Balls so he can become taller). While embarking on this quest, Frieza’s minions discover Broly and Paragus, and Frieza takes the pair in, planning to use them to take down Goku and Vegeta.

However, even these new allies aren’t enough to damper Frieza’s evil instincts. When Goku starts to dominate Broly, Frieza murders Paragus in cold blood, hoping that Broly’s anger will allow him to grow stronger. While Frieza has become more comedic and less of a threat since his Dragon Ball Z heyday, Dragon Ball Super proves that he still has an evil heart and will do anything to claw his way to power.

2 Elec's Desire For Vengeance Blinds Him

Elec Shows His True Colors Near The End Of The Arc

The 5 Most Evil Dragon Ball Super Villains, Ranked

First appearing in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 68, «Granolah the Survivor,» Elec is a member of the Heeters family. Having grown tired of their unequal business relationship with Frieza, the Heeters strive to grow strong enough to take Frieza down and assume control of his army, something they believe will let them rule all of Universe 7.

Elec reveals himself an excellent tactician and manipulator, frequently convincing others to do his bidding. Most notably, after realizing that Granolah could seize power from them after defeating Frieza, Elec tricks Granolah into fighting Goku and Vegeta by telling him that the pair are assassins sent by Frieza, knowing that Granolah will not be able to take both down single-handed.

The most obvious example of Elec’s evil comes at the end of the arc after he convinces Gas to fight Goku and Vegeta. Once Goku starts to beat Gas down, Elec enters the battlefield, but rather than helping, he opts to berate Gas instead. This insult leads to Gas powering up once more. Alas, the energy required to do this causes Gas’ body to decay rapidly, making him look old and haggard.

Despite obvious evidence that Gas’ body is falling apart and that he’s quickly approaching death, Elec keeps pushing him to fight, even slapping his sister away when she tries to talk him into retreating, informing everyone that he’s well aware that this power-up will kill Gas, proudly declaring that he believes Gas’ unknowing sacrifice is worth it. While Dragon Ball is full of terrible and evil people, most usually have the decency to do their own dirty work, making Elec’s decision to trick his own family into dying for him stand out.

1 Moro Is Willing To Do Anything To Get What He Wants

Moro Is Willing To Do Anything To Complete His Goals

The 5 Most Evil Dragon Ball Super Villains, Ranked

Moro debuts in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 43 «Joining the Galactic Patrol!» About ten million years before the start of the Dragon Ball story, Moro was a massive threat to Universe 7 who wiped out all life on 320 planets. Thankfully, the Grand Supreme Kai and the South Supreme Kai intervened, and the Grand Supreme Kai eventually sealed Moro away.

Just before the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga starts, the seal weakens enough for Moro to break free and put his revenge into motion. Moro is so memorably evil because he doesn’t care for anyone other than himself. After he escapes, Moro’s only goal is to gain as much power and wipe out as much life as possible. What sets Moro apart from Dragon Ball’s other violence-loving villains is his skill at manipulation. During the arc, Moro convinces many people to join his army, only to turn on them the second they cease to be useful to him.

When Saganbo, one of Moro’s longest-serving allies, prepares to fight Goku, Moro gives him some energy to boost his strength. However, once Saganbo starts to lose, Moro infuses him with more and more energy, despite Saganbo’s body being unable to handle it, something that eventually kills the warrior. Even worse, when Goku notes that he presumed Saganbo and Moro were friends, Moro brushes off the death by saying that Saganbo was just a soldier and he’ll find more, showing how utterly cold-hearted he is.

A similar thing happens later in the story. After nearly being killed by Vegeta’s Forced Spirit Fission, Moro kills Shimorekka and then consumes former allySeven-Three, revealing that he only kept the android around as his copy ability made him work as a backup of both Moro and his enemy’s abilities, showing that despite being outwardly friendly to the robot, Moro always intended to kill him. This sheer lack of empathy makes Moro the most evil villain in Dragon Ball Super.
