Details surrounding Avengers: Doomsday are scarce at this moment, but with several different teams confirmed to be part of the cast, it is expected that they will all attempt to take down Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will pose a serious threat to the multiverse, and various teams will be needed to handle that.
The Avengers have typically been seen as the ultimate group of heroes within the MCU, able to handle any challenge that is thrown their way. However, when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday, they are likely to be the weakest team involved, which is an unexpected scenario.
The Avengers Lineup Is Unknown Heading Into Avengers: Doomsday
The Rest Of The Teams Are Proven And Tested
In the past, when The Avengers were shown together, they were a well-established group with clear leadership in Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. The rest of the team brought plenty of individual power, and by the time Avengers: Age of Ultron took place, they were also a close-knit group of friends. However, heading into Avengers: Doomsday, little is known about the group, including who will be part of it. While Sam Wilson is guaranteed to be the leader of the team, who he will place alongside him is currently unclear. The new dynamic might not feature as much power or skill as before, which could make them far weaker than the other teams. Even Wilson, as the leader, will be questionable after spending most of his time in the franchise as a supporting character.
That is the complete opposite of the other teams that are set to be part of Avengers: Doomsday. The New Avengers might be a dysfunctional group of characters, but they have spent time fighting by each other’s side, establishing teamwork and friendship through expressing their deepest emotions. The Fantastic Four are also going to be in Avengers: Doomsday and are notoriously a closely connected team, especially due to their smaller numbers. The X-Men might be seen as the wildcards heading into the film, but the reality is that they also spent a long time together, growing up and training by each other’s side. That means that fans won’t be sure how to judge The Avengers because they do not know them as a unit, while the other teams will also be more impressive from a combat perspective.
Marvel Fans Might Not Even See Captain America Picking The Team
This Would Further Damage How Audiences Feel About The Team
While the new members of The Avengers team will be highlighted in Avengers: Doomsday, it is reported that fans will not see how the team is picked. According to Alex of Cosmic Circus, Sam Wilson will have chosen a good portion of his team by the team audiences sit down to watch the movie. That means that people won’t get to see the thought process in terms of who gets picked and why. Fans would’ve enjoyed seeing the conversations that went down between them all, and they’re the types of scenes that would help build a connection between the fans and the team itself. Marvel took the time over multiple films to create the original Avengers group, with Nick Fury searching for each character to bring them together. Therefore, not having those moments this time will stop people from caring about them in the same manner.
The Avengers Previously Took Time To Develop As A Team
There Are A Lot Of Personalities Involved
The idea of The Avengers being a perfect team makes sense, given the powers that they have always had. However, even the original format of the group took some time to pull together, with the death of Phil Coulson playing a crucial factor in their working together. Before that, the various characters spent most of their time fighting against each other, and there’s no guarantee that the new team will not suffer the same teething problems. Given that Avengers: Doomsday won’t be solely focused on them as previous Avengers films have, there will be the added pressure of not having the time to establish themselves as a unit on-screen for audiences to connect with and care about.
This could drastically hurt how The Avengers are viewed in the long term, especially when compared to the other teams. Given that audiences will have seen the other teams in different movies over the years, albeit a long time ago in regards to the X-Men, there is a chance that they will end up investing in the other more than The Avengers, which might end up being problematic when it comes to future films. There’s a chance that fans will want to see what the others do rather than the core team, which will only be made worse if they appear the weakest in Avengers: Doomsday.
