In the wake of the release of The Boys Season 5, program creator Eric Kripke has revealed an interesting tidbit about the series’ ending. The veteran television producer admitted in a recent interview that he “always knew” how the fan-favorite series would end, before adding that its conclusion would feature a highly anticipated fight between two heavyweights, Homelander and Billy Butcher.
Eric Kripke reveals fight that will end The Boys Season 5
The Supernatural creator recently confirmed that the ending of The Boys Season 5 would see Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) go toe-to-toe for the last time.
“The subject matter is really about this battle between this human, Billy Butcher, and this superhero, Homelander,” Eric Kripke said while speaking with Parade. “And it was sort of inevitable that eventually they were going to smash into each other. So, for example, I always knew it was going to end with that. Had I not given that to the audience, I think I really would’ve p—– everybody off.”
Kripke added, “I think I always knew we were building towards Homelander getting crazier and crazier, Butcher getting darker and darker, and then eventually those two smash into each other.”
The veteran writer and producer then disclosed that not only did he know about Billy and Homelander’s final fight from the very beginning, but he was also aware of every major character’s ultimate fate in The Boys Season 5 ending.
“The thing the writers knew the most clearly was about the last 15 pages of the script of the final episode. We knew where everyone ended up. We knew who lived and who died and what their endings were, whether it was happy or not. And so then a lot of Season 5 was just working backwards and figuring out how to build to that,” Eric Kripke remarked.
Notably, the fifth and final installment of The Boys premiered its first two episodes on April 8, 2026. The remaining six episodes of the edition are set to follow a weekly release pattern, with a new chapter coming out every other Wednesday. Moreover, the series finale will air on May 20.
