The Most Iconic Character in the Assassin's Creed Series Needs to Make a Comeback

The Assassin’s Creed series has introduced its fair share of unique, prominent, and amazing characters to the franchise. From the likes of the swaggering Edward Kenway to the arrogant yet competent duo of Jacob and Evie Frye, the Assassin Order has been led to the fray by a plethora of varied protagonists, all of whom have served to bring their order to its greatest heights, along with becoming the subject of interest for many fans. But none have done so more competently, efficiently, or as admirably as one unique character from the series: Ezio.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is one of the most famous characters in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, arguably its most famous. Not to mention, he is one of the characters that is most adored by the series’ fans, and it’s not hard at all to see why. Ezio’s actions, personality, story, and overall undeniable charisma have attracted players from all across the world, making him a character of no insignificant interest. But what is it about the man, the legend, Ezio Auditore, that makes him so appealing to the fans and players both?

Ezio's Personality Makes Him Stand Out From the Other Assassins

Charisma, Confidence, and Aplomb Aplenty

This goes without saying, but it should be said anyway. Ezio’s personality is one of the most defining features of his character. He is arguably the series’ most charismatic assassin to be introduced so far. From his mannerisms to his demeanor, even the way he speaks is something that causes him to stand out from other protagonists in the series, in the best of ways.

  • A great contribution to Ezio’s character is his personality
  • He is arguably the most charming protagonist in the series as a whole
  • He is equally charming, appealing, and loyal

If there was only one word that could be used to describe Ezio, it would likely be enticing. Make no mistake: Ezio Auditore is not a man that lacks in confidence. He has the charisma, zeal, and appeal that can charm anyone to his cause, especially the ladies. Throughout his life, Ezio has had no shortage of romantic interests and paramours. All of whom have rarely, if ever, been found wanting from his advances. Even in his later years, when he has grown more mature, these characteristics remain much the same, albeit on a more reserved scale.

But beneath all the charm and aplomb, there is more to the man, much more. He is a man who cherishes the people he cares for and those he will go to great lengths for. This is widely recognized throughout his various relationships throughout his life, whether romantic, cordial, or familial. From his uncle Mario to his sister Claudia, to the love of his life Maria, or his best friend Leonardo, these and others are those whom Ezio cherishes, and all of whom have had a significant impact upon his character.

Ezio's Story and Character Arc are Some of the Best in the Series

A Story of Vengeance, Duty, Love, and Family

Then there is Ezio’s story, another popular aspect of his. Despite being a character known for his confidence and charm and one who cherished his loved ones, he was not without his faults. In fact, at the very beginning of Assassin’s Creed II, Ezio was a brash, headstrong, and arrogant individual. These traits especially intensified after the death of most of his family at the hands of the Templars, which began a decades-long quest for vengeance, which was the central drive of his actions.

  • Ezio’s story is one filled with revenge, duty, love, and maturity
  • His story from Assassin’s Creed II to Assassin’s Creed Embers showcases his overall growth and maturity throughout his life
  • Ezio’s story and character arc is some of the most richly developed in the series

However, in time, he began to understand the plights of those around him and see a purpose beyond that of just personal retribution. And so what began as a yearning for vengeance became a sense of duty, and after that duty, a call to a creed. One that he picked up from the mantle of his father, uncle, and others.

Ezio’s story throughout the series encapsulates this growth in its entirety, changing a brash and arrogant teenager hell-bent on vengeance into a wise, dutiful, yet all-too-charming man. A man whose love, loyalty, and charm have only grown throughout his age. It’s another reason why Ezio’s character resonates with so many fans, as those who have played Assassin’s Creed II through Assassin’s Creed Revelations and have even seen the short film Assassin’s Creed Embers have seen the life and growth of Ezio from his birth until his death.

Ezio's Legacy Endures Throughout the Series

A Hero Who Stands the Test of Time

Ezio’s life, actions, and legacy have left a lasting legacy for both the Assassin Order and his successors. Because of him, the Templar threat in Italy was extinguished, the piece of Eden was found, and a vital message was delivered throughout time that would help in saving the world. He is also responsible for not only saving the Assassin Order but helping it thrive, making the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins one of the strongest brotherhoods in its time.

Even with his passing in Assassin’s Creed Embers, he ensured that the Assassins would be able to continue their work through the ages, long after his death. Ezio and his legacy would become not only known, but lauded. Even in the present day, the Assassins hold Ezio in high esteem for his efforts to the Brotherhood. Efforts which would prove vital to helping save the world from destruction centuries after his time.

  • Ezio’s legacy still lasts long after his death
  • His actions strengthened the Brotherhood, defeated the Templars, and helped save the world
  • He is a character loved by both his universe and the fanbase.

But Ezio’s legacy isn’t one that is limited to the series’ own universe, as fans new and old have come to not only value, but love Ezio as a character. A character who is often – and for good reason – regarded as one of Assassin’s Creed‘s best characters, arguably its very best. And it’s not hard at all to see why.

Ezio is a popular, charismatic, and multi-faceted individual. One that is filled with his fair share of strengths, weaknesses, and love. All of which made him the man he was, and one who players have come to love in return. Ezio Auditore da Firenze is Assasssin’s Creed‘s best assassin, and one that has earned his title and creed.
