The Nintendo Switch 2 launched last week, and despite complaints about the price, it has sold quite well. With enough juice to run current-gen triple-A games and a new social feature in the way of Game Chat, the console was always going to do well in terms of sales, but perhaps even Nintendo didn’t expect it to sell 3.5 million units in four days.
«Nintendo Co., Ltd. announced that its new game system, Nintendo Switch 2, sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the four days ing its release on June 5, 2025,» says a press release by the company. «This is the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days.»

That’s not all, however. According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmed of Niko Partners, these numbers mean that the Switch 2 is «not just the best selling Nintendo console in the first 4 days, but the fastest selling home video game console of all time.» He further pointed out that «it took the PS4 two weeks to sell 2.1m units and six weeks to sell 4.2m units. It took the PS5 seven weeks to sell through 4.4m units.»
We always knew that the Switch 2 would do well, but considering the price point and other issues, it’s surprising that it has become the fastest selling console of all time. Ahmed did note that the PS5 has a constrained launch, with certain markets getting it before others. The Switch 2, on the other hand, had a single global launch day and increased production as well.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t all been Rainbow Roads and Mario Sunshine after launch. It seems that there have already been several reported cases of stick drift on the Switch 2 joy-con. While Nintendo has agreed to replace them, it’s disappointing that the issue wasn’t addressed after the controversy with the original Switch.
