The Office Actor Is 'Officially Quitting Comedy' to Focus on 'True Calling'

Actor Craig Robinson has found a new path to pursue in life. Best known for his comedy roles, including a run on the hit TV series The Office, Robinson has announced that he is stepping away from comedy, hinting that he has big news to share soon about what’s coming next.

«Life update: I’m officially quitting comedy to focus on my true calling,» Robinson said in a video shared on Instagram. «Stay tuned. I’m working on something huge.»

In the video, Robinson added, “Hey, everybody! Just wanted you to hear it from me. I am quitting comedy, But not for nothing. It’s been an amazing run, and you all have been amazing and wonderful. But, I’m following something bigger. So, thank you so much, I love you, and stay tuned.”

The actor went on to share another post with another tease about his next venture. Curiously, he was asking for advice about how to start a small business. Robinson noted in the caption, «Turns out having a dream and building a business with your friends are two VERY different things. I can’t go into detail just yet, but for real though any help would be huge.»

One of Robinson’s most popular roles was as Darryl Philbin in The Office, a character he played in over 100 episodes. Darryl started out as a warehouse foreman before moving into the office. Some cast members are expected to cross over with The Paper, a new offshoot set in the same universe that follows the staff of a declining newspaper. Oscar Nunez will appear as Oscar in the new show, but given Robinson’s announcement, it seems a lot less likely that Darryl will have a cameo.

Robinson also played the recurring role of Doug «The Pontiac Bandit» Judy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and voiced LeVar «Freight Train» Brown on The Cleveland Show. He has appeared in many comedy films, including Pineapple Express, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, This Is the End, and Hot Tub Time Machine. More recently, he starred in the Peacock comedy Killing It and did voiceover work for the animated Fox series Krapopolis.

Craig Robinson Has a Few More Voice Roles in the Works

While Robinson is finished with comedy acting, he does have upcoming roles fans can anticipate for projects now in post-production. He returns as the voice of Mr. Shark in the animated sequel The Bad Guys 2, which is hitting theaters on Aug. 1. Robinson will also voice a role as a character named Baloney Tony in the animated fantasy comedy movie In Your Dreams, coming to Netflix on Nov. 14, 2025. Additionally, the actor’s voice will be heard as a bullfrog in another animated adventure comedy film called The Ark and the Aardvark which doesn’t yet have a release date.
