The One Piece is one of those anime projects that every one of us has been looking forward to since December 2023. While it’s been literally years of disappointment for the Wit Studio adaptation of the anime, Netflix just dropped a teaser trailer for the project (via YouTube), which might indicate some good news:
After three long years of waiting for the reboot of Eiichiro Oda‘s magnum opus series, the recent video release should surely count for something, right? But then again, they have teased the Wit Studio version plenty of times already, so a bit of skepticism isn’t really out of the blue.
Netflix Shares a Teaser for Wit Studios’ The One Piece Adaptation
At this point, most of us really gave up on The One Piece project that was “still coming” from Netflix since the December 2023 announcement at Jump Festa 2024. Although there was no discussion for months and literal years, Netflix finally showed up out of the blue with a teaser-trailer video for the same via their social media accounts (including their official X handle).

A thing to notice here is that although they have labelled it as a “new anime from Wit Studio“, we already know that’s not the case here. Nevertheless, let’s talk about the contents of the teaser trailer itself. This was basically a production showcase of the artistic approach Wit Studio is taking for the remake of the 1999-ongoing anime series.
The video features character panels for the main Straw Hat Pirates at the beginning of their journey – Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and Usopp, along with a character showcase of Red-Haired Shanks to close it off. Additionally, the video also features a cinematic sequence of major scenes from the story, more like a quick slideshow. But the information we all wanted to know is yet again missing from the featured video, which makes it even more difficult to remain optimistic – a release date for The One Piece.
Why The One Piece Is One of Netflix’s Most Controversial Projects
For years now, we fans have been waiting to see the remake of the One Piece anime series by Wit Studio, only to be met by disappointment every time. This has been one of the most controversial projects from Netflix, with no confirmation of even a release timeline. From time to time, they seem to create a buzz regarding the remake, and suddenly disappear from the matter.
What makes it more frustrating is that Wit Studio is making the remake, and not just any other random animation studio. Wit Studio is known as one of the best animation studios and a renowned name in the industry, making the hype for the remake even more demanding. It’s truly honest to be skeptical at this point since again, Netflix failed to properly address the main topic of when it is coming out.
However, what even brings a sliver of hope is that this time, Netflix gave us something regarding the remake without us even making demands. But then again, this could well and truly be a clever strategy to push more hype, seeing as how the anime returned with the Elbaph Arc and the manga made the massive Imu face reveal.
