What Is The Ramparts of Ice Anime About?

The anime follows Koyuki Hikawa, who has difficulty connecting with others and keeps most of her classmates at a distance. Her only companion is Miki Azumi, her childhood friend. The balance of Koyuki’s quiet school life shifts when Minato Amamiya enters the scene, determined to get through her emotional walls.
Together with Yota Hino, the four students navigate the struggles of adolescence, growth, and friendship. Here’s the official synopsis by Netflix:
The story centers around Koyuki Hikawa, a socially withdrawn student who keeps an emotional wall between herself and others. The only person she spends time with is her longtime friend, Miki Azumi. One day, her quiet life is disrupted when a boy named Minato Amamiya inexplicably starts trying to break through her barriers. The aloof Koyuki, the high school idol Miki, the overly familiar Minato and the laid-back basketball player Yota share an awkward, occasionally frustrating, yet wholesome student life.

Shueisha published the 14-volume compiled edition in 2025. The manga ranked second in AnimeJapan’s 2023 “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation” poll (via Anime News Network).
