The Umbrella Academy was originally a comic series and later a Netflix series that a dysfunctional family of superpowered individuals, adopted and raised to save the world by the eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves and their robot caretaker, “Mom.”
Hargreeves managed to get his hands on 7 of the 43 mysteriously born superpowered children worldwide: Luther (Number One), Diego (Number Two), Allison (Number Three), Klaus (Number Four), Number Five, Ben (Number Six), and Viktor (Number Seven). However, the Umbrella Academy and these seven heroes turned out to be only half the story. Sir Reginald Hargreeves actually adopted 14 children, with the other seven known as the Sparrows.

Gerard Way and co-writer and artist Gabriel Bá’s The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #1 is finally here, and it is prepared to take a deep dive into the Sparrows. While the Sparrows were featured in The Umbrella Academy, this new series will further explore these characters. The synopsis for the first issue reveals that, “After the mass release of The City’s greatest foes and the chaos that in Hotel Oblivion, the Umbrella Academy faces their most fearsome challenge to date: their other brothers and sisters. Known only as the Sparrows, they share a different connection to Sir Reginald Hargreeves and Mom.”
The synopsis goes on to read, “No one knows how to hurt each other more than family, and this powerful, ruthless brood will spare no brutality in favor of their sole objective: control and the obedient glare that comes with it.” There is no denying that the Sparrows being the hidden brothers and sisters of the Umbrella Academy is one of the biggest twists in the entire series. Now, with Way’s new series, it seems he is finally ready to uncover everything there is to know about this long-held secret. Fans of both the comic series and the Netflix adaptation will undoubtedly want to this next chapter as The Umbrella Academy story continues.
Could The Umbrella Academy: Plan B Mean a New Netflix Series?

With Gerard Way back at the helm writing The Umbrella Academy, lovers of the TV series can’t help but wonder if The Umbrella Academy: Plan B will gain enough momentum to spark a continuation of the Netflix series or possibly a spinoff. Fans would undoubtedly love to see more of the Sparrows, especially if it means cameos from characters like Diego, Klaus, and the other Umbrella Academy siblings. Currently, there is no word on whether another live-action project is in development. However, if this comic series takes off and proves there is strong audience demand, fans may just see their dreams come true, with Netflix potentially being convinced to bring The Umbrella Academy back.
