No matter what point of the game you're at in 7 Days To Die, you're going to need water. It's one of the many drinks that will keep your thirst meter full, and it's required for a lot of recipes in the game, like Red Tea. You can loot it or drink it from streams, but often enough, that water's dirty.
Too much dirty water's just going to make your character sick and drive your Thirst Meter even lower, but not drinking means you'll run out of stamina quicker. If you want to survive in the wild, you'll need a source of clean drinking water to help you.
How To Craft A Dew Collector
To start consistently getting Water, you're going to need a Dew Collector. It's one of the first resource-generating items you'll be able to craft in the game, and you'll need to read at least two Forge Ahead magazines to be able to craft it.
Each one you craft needs some basic materials to be crafted, the most difficult of which to get is Duct Tape, as it uses Glue as an ingredient.
Glue is one of the rarer finds and if you want to craft it, you'll need to get lucky and find a Cooking Pot, which most often spawns inside the stovesor cabinets of home kitchens, or invest in a Forge, one of the mid-early-game crafting stations.
It's possible to find Duct Tape on its own in some of the same lootables as Glue, but it's still a rare find, and purchasing it through Traders, in the beginning, can be expensive.

How To Collect Water
With at least one Dew Collector, you're ready to get started having water on hand. Dew Collectors can only be placed outside with a clear view of the sky, such as on the ground or a roof, and they take up around a nine-by-nine area of space, using Building Blocks as a size reference.
When placed, they'll automatically begin generating one Murky Water per six to nine in-game hours. They can generate a maximum of three in their inventory, and it takes 24 in-game hours for its inventory to fill up.
Start making Red Tea once you've got some Water and a Cooking Pot available – it restores a decent amount of Thirst and lowers the drain of your food and thirst for X minutes.
Dew Collectors can be modified with three different mods, which can be obtained by crafting, buying at Traders like Trader Rekt, or looting them randomly:
- The Gatherer Mod increases the amount of water collected overall.
- The Tarp Mod increases the water obtained per slot, up to a maximum of two per inventory slot.
- The Water Filter Mod makes it collect regular Water instead of Murky Water, eliminating the need to boil water gained from it.
