8 Video Game Achievements That Call You Out

Whether they're on Xbox or Steam, achievements are a great tool for incentivizing you to keep playing a game after you've beaten its story. They're also a nice little acknowledgment for the impressive things you've managed to do in a game. Or at least, they usually are.

Sometimes, however, developers like to have a bit of fun with their achievements. So, instead of using them to praise your work, they use them to call you out or make fun of you. Perhaps they're mocking your general performance or acknowledging a misdeed you've done. Here are some of the most notable and humourous examples.

8 I Swear! I Did It By Mistake! — Lollipop Chainsaw

Being A Perv For 10 Gamerscore

Lollipop Chainsaw is a third-person action game starring a cheerleader who wears a typical cheerleader outfit as she takes on hordes of undead. That outfit comes with a short skirt.

If, for whatever reason, you decide to tilt the camera to look up the skirt, you get the achievement 'I Swear! I Did It By Mistake!' Therefore, it's mocking the poor excuse you'd perhaps try to use to explain how you ended up with this achievement.

7 LVP — Deceit

The Opposite Of An MVP

Sometimes, the achievements that mock you the most are the ones you unlock for failing in some way. 'LVP' from the multiplayer game Deceit is a perfect example of that. You unlock this achievement by getting the least amount of XP in a game.

Earning less XP than everyone else is already fairly embarrassing, but having an achievement on your Steam account named 'LVP' (AKA Least Valuable Player) makes things even worse. It also comes with a little image of a medal with the 'L' sign on it, just so the game can let you know you're a loser.

6 Money Well Spent — My Summer Car

Building A Car Is Hard

My Summer Car is an interesting game in which you build a car from scratch. This is not very easy, as it takes plenty of time and money to create the vehicle of your dreams.

Once you do, you can bring it in for inspection. If you fail that inspection, you earn the 'Money Well Spent' achievement, which is clearly a sarcastic title. The game is mocking you for failing to build the perfect car.

5 Butter Fingers — The Finals

Be Careful With Grenades

In action games, it's very easy to blow yourself up with an explosive. For example, you may try to throw a grenade through a window, but it may hit the wall instead and bounce back your way.

It's an easy mistake that anyone could make. That said, the free-to-play FPS known as The Finals still comically makes fun of you for it. Therefore, if you blow yourself up with one of the game's several different grenades, you get the Butter Fingers achievement.

4 Expert Marksman — Secret Service

The Most Useless Secret Service Agent

'Expert Marksman' is the perfect name for an achievement where you get a lot of headshots or kills. It can be used to make you feel good and give you deserved praise for a job well done.

That is not what the developers of the game Secret Service used it for, though. Instead, they used it to mock you. This is because you only unlock the achievement by emptying an entire magazine of your weapon without hitting anyone. So, the title is dripping with sarcasm.

3 Go Get Some Sun — Call Of Duty: World At War

Being Insulted By A Game For Playing It Too Much

If you play a lot of games, you may have been told to get out more or go outside. However, this usually comes from people who don't play or understand the greatness of video games. Yet, there is an achievement in Call of Duty: World At War that tells you the same thing.

You unlock the 'Go Get Some Sun' achievement by reaching the highest level of prestige. This takes many, many hours of play, hence the achievement name. If you reach the point where the games are telling you to go outside, perhaps you should start to listen.

2 Not That Super — Superman Returns

Superman Doesn't Like Cheaters

In Superman Returns, you get to play as one of the most powerful characters in all of fiction. Yet, if being Superman isn't enough, you can give yourself a bit of help by using cheats. Neither the game nor Superman approves of this, though, as shown by the 'Not That Super' achievement.

Not only does the game claim that you aren't that super, but the icon for the achievement is Superman wagging his finger at you. If you don't appreciate this level of judgment, you should stick to games where you side with the villain, as they are more likely to accept you for the cheater you are.

1 Coward! — Heavy Rain

How Far Will You Go To Save Your Son?

One of the characters you control in Heavy Rain is Ethan Mars, whose child gets kidnapped by the serial killer known as The Origami Killer. Throughout the game, you have to pass a bunch of trials that the kidnapper has set up to get a chance to see your son again.

One of them is called the Butterfly Trial, which consists of crawling through broken glass and making your way past transformers that can shock you. If you fail this trial or give up, you get this achievement or trophy that simply labels you a coward.
