While Ken Levine's upcoming project titled "Judas" is all the rage among BioShock fans, it should be noted that an actual BioShock 4 is in development. Announced all the way back in 2019, a fourth and untitled BioShock game has seemingly been in development for several years. At the time, 2K announced that it had founded Cloud Chamber, a brand-new studio situated in both California and Canada to work on BioShock. It also noted that it would "be in development for the next several years," and since then, things have been extremely quiet.
However, it appears that production is ramping up at Cloud Chamber. That's if a slew of job postings are to be believed, which span a number of game dev positions, including artists, level designers and writers. That development comes by way of a LinkedIn posting by way of Jeff Spoonhower, a Senior Cinematic Game Designer at 2K Cloud Chamber.
In his post, Spoonhower noted that the team is "ramping up." He also called the planned BioShock title a "really awesome project," as he linked to several open positions. The available positions can be found here, and they are plentiful. While it's not uncommon for studios to ramp up hiring, the presence of some of these jobs, such as level designers and writers, might suggest the game is not nearly as deep into development as it seems.
Everything We Know About BioShock 4
As expected, there's little to no official information about BioShock 4, including a working title or release frame. That said, there still is a bit of information that has been gleaned from leaks, as well as job postings that have helped paint a picture of what the game might end up becoming. Of course, given the age of some of these developments, there's a good chance that things have since changed.
With that in mind, in 2021, we learned that the game will supposedly be called "BioShock Isolation," and got a sneak peek at a potential logo. That information came by way of Twitter account OopsLeaks. They also shared via an alleged pitch presentation that two cities "with radically different ideology" would be engaged in some sort of "vertical war."
2021 also gave way to rumors that the game would be open world in scope. Those rumors stemmed from job listings that included duties such as "creating "character-driven stories in an open world setting." Those listings also suggested that side quests may be a part of the game, though that element was less clear.
And that's pretty much the extent of what's known about BioShock 4. The prospect of a new BioShock on its own is certainly exciting, though the lack of information, especially several years down the line, does give some worry. That said, the fact that 2K is seemingly ramping up development might mean the game could be due for an official reveal at some point soon.
