Turn the BAL-27 into MW3’s strongest assault rifle with this Gunsmith build.
Arguably the most popular assault rifle in Sledgehammer's CoD titles, the BAL-27 from Advanced Warfare has found its way into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in the Season 3: Reloaded update. Complete a series of challenges in the Battle Pass, and you'll be able to use the single strongest assault rifle in CoD: Advanced Warfare.
As it turns out, the BAL-27 is also quite powerful in MW3, although not quite as good as the AW Obsidian Steed variant. This guide will explain how to get your hands on this new bullpup assault rifle and how to modify it for success.
How To Unlock The BAL-27
Future Season Acquisition
Once Season 3 ends, the BAL-27 will become tied to the Armory Unlocks system . You'll need to complete a certain number of daily challenges to unlock the weapon.
The BAL-27 is found in Sector 23 of the Season 3 Battle Pass. It's located roughly midway in the reward track, wedged between Sectors 6 and 13. As with most mid-season weapon releases, you'll need to complete five challenges to unlock this gun—you do not need to spend Battle Pass Tokens to unlock the weapon. Those challenges are as follows:
- Land 5 headshot kills with assault rifles.
- Kill 10 enemies while moving with an assault rifle.
- Land 10 hipfire kills with an assault rifle.
- Land 10 tac stance kills with an assault rifle.
- Kill 15 enemies while ADS with an assault rifle.
Bear in mind that the fifth challenge may only be progressed when the four previous challenges are completed. Once you've finished the series of challenges, you'll be able to use the BAL-27 right away. The gun itself has 19 Levels and, as of Season 3, has no conversion kits.

This build heavily reduces the BAL-27's vertical recoil while increasing its magazine capacity, ADS speed, and firing aim stability. Building for all stats simultaneously is usually rather difficult, but the BAL-27 has some strange attachment modifiers that highly encourage accuracy builds.
We start by installing a 60 Round Mag, as the weapon burns through ammo once it ramps up to 800 RPM after a few rounds. For recoil reduction, we opted for the T51R Billeted Brake for vertical recoil reduction, the FTAC SP-10 Angled Grip for horizontal recoil, and the Ardent Tac Stock for visual recoil. Since the gun has poor handling by default, we use the Hammer Grip to trade some recoil control for a dramatic boost to our ADS speed, making it competitive with most AR builds.
With all five attachments, you have an assault rifle that's quite similar to the MTZ-556. You have virtually no recoil for the first 15 shots, are able to ADS in a mere 218ms, and have solid movement speed for an assault rifle with this large of a magazine. The gun's only downside is the lack of a suppressor, and due to the recoil of this gun, we highly discourage you from installing one; the Billeted Brake is mandatory to make this gun controllable past 40 meters.

The BAL-27 is well-suited to aggressive playstyles thanks to its excellent hipfire accuracy and fast RPM. To enhance such a playstyle, we recommend using the Compression Carrier. This gives you Tac Mask for free and instantly triggers HP regeneration on kills. This ensures there's little downtime between fights, making it easier to keep the BAL-27 at 800 RPM.
From there, we highly recommend using the Assault Gloves. They were buffed in Season 3: Reloaded to reduce your hipfire spread by 15% in addition to mitigating midair accuracy penalties. This gun has amazing hipfire accuracy as-is, so giving it a 15% buff makes it a monster up . Covert Sneakers and Ghost will ensure that you have the upper hand at the start of a gunfight, but be wary that you'll appear on the minimap when you fire your weapon.
