Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: Larry Chiang Psychopath Guide

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is an excellent way to revisit an absolute banger of a game or experience it fresh for the first time. It comes complete with all the whacky and deranged Psychopaths we all know and love, allowing us to see them in all their chaotic goodness in higher fidelity, making them much more daunting than ever before.

And Larry Chiang is one of the bosses who benefitted most from the visual upgrades, making his horrific attempt at turning Carlito into ground meat all that more realized. This encounter is still as exciting as ever, making it one of our favorites, even if it is a tad bit easier compared to the others.

How To Find Larry Chiang

Upon completing the Case ‘Jessie’s Discovery,‘ where Jessie and Frank observe CCTV footage of a deranged butcher dragging what appears to be Carlito Keyes into a Meat Processing Area in the basement of the mall, the Case ‘The Butcher‘ will become available, having you travel through the Maintenance Tunnels to the Meat Processing Area.

This Case is a mandatory quest that takes place during the third day of the outbreak. It is the penultimate Case of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Once you arrive at the Meat Processing Area, a cutscene will play out, where you will then be tossed into battle against Larry!

How To Defeat Larry Chiang

Like always, before you enter the Meat Processing Area, you should prepare your inventory to make this encounter as trivial as possible. To do this, grab the Katana and Submachine Gun in Paradise Plaza, along with three to even four things of Orange Juice to keep on top of your health.

You likely won’t need more than that, as this encounter isn’t all that difficult to begin with, but if you want to bring an extra Submachine Gun just in case, you can find another one in the fountain in Al Fresca Plaza. This will be well more than enough, so make your way to the Meat Processing Area!

Larry Chiang Moves

Larry is a pretty robust Psychopath in regards to his moves, as he has many of them. He will typically open the encounter up with a Charging Attack, having him lower his shoulders and dart forward, delivering a devastating slash with his Meat Cleaver at the end. The moment you see him drop his shoulder, prepare to roll away from him at the right second to evade it.

Try to make your way over to the long metal table near the left side of the room, as Larry will begin tossing Throwing Knives at you. If you’re on the opposite end of the table, these projectiles will never hit you, allowing you to just open fire on him as he struggles to hit you. Utilize this table often and whenever possible; it works tremendously well!

After a while, Larry will navigate over to the rows of Carcasses hanging from Meat Hooks and pull one off before hurling it at you. Whenever you see him begin to do this, switch to your Katana and take several swings at him. After he gets the Carcass off the Hook, evade to the left or right to evade the throw, then hit him one or two more times.

From here, repeat the steps outlined above until you have defeated Larry. He has a pretty meaty health pool, so it may take a bit of effort, but utilizing the table will help you shave off large chunks of his health pretty quickly!

In the original Dead Rising, Larry Chiang would occasionally pick up and eat a Can of Meat, replenishing some of his health. He didn’t do this during our bout with him, but it’s still highly possible he does this, so keep an eye out for that. This typically happened when you lowered his HP halfway, but he just didn’t do it for some reason when we fought him.

Rewards For Defeating Larry Chiang

Defeating Larry Chiang will have him drop his Meat Cleaver, which will become a permanent spawn in the Meat Processing Area from this point onward. You will also receive Carlito’s Locket, which will lead to the next events in the Main Story.

You will likely have lots of time to kill before you have to return to Isabella, so take this time to go around and save Survivors or take down any Psychopaths you may have missed during the third day of the outbreak if they’re still available.

Larry Chiang counts toward the Punisher Achievement/Trophy in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, where you must defeat ten different Psychopaths during the 72-Hour Mode. If you’re gunning for this accomplishment, ensure you also tackled the others!
