When Nintendo announces a Direct, you never can know for sure whether it's going to be the biggest and best thing you have ever seen, 35 minutes of cozy farming sims followed by a mid-tier 'one more thing', or something in between. Since the Switch era is coming to an end, you'd have thought June's Direct would be r to the low-key end of the scale, but no. Lots of big announcements, a better look at and a release date for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake among them.
Not only did Square Enix confirm Dragon Quest 3's long-awaited remake will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on November 14, but it also revealed HD-2D remakes of the first two games will follow it in 2025. While that might seem a little confusing at first, Dragon Quest 3 takes place first on the series timeline, so playing it first makes sense. Think the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake. A similar situation where the third game in the series is the first chronologically.
Since there's no firm release date for the Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remakes yet, you can't pre-order them. Pre-orders are open for Dragon Quest 3 though across all platforms, and its pre-order bonuses have been revealed. If you commit to a copy of the game early, whether it be its standard or collector's edition, you'll get an array of in-game bonuses. A pair of elevating shoes and various seeds that will aid you on your (Dragon) quest, all of which are listed below.

Rejoice Dragon Quest fans because yes, as noted above, there is a collector's edition. It's a big one though, which means it's pretty expensive. $199.99 to be exact, and while there are a few things in there driving the price up, it's the acrylic block set that really makes Dragon Quest 3's collector's edition worth the money. Various characters from the game have been turned into acrylic blocks, two of its big bosses have too, and so has the Dragon Quest 3 logo.
Also included in the collector's edition is a clamshell box with room for two game cases inside. It doesn't explicitly say this on the Square Enix store, but I'm assuming the idea is that collector's edition owners will put their copy of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake in their with Dragon Quest 3 when it's released in 2025. The collector's edition also comes with the same pre-order bonuses as the standard edition plus even more in-game goodies, all of which are listed below.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 14, 2023. HD-2D remakes of the first two games will follow it in 2025. Perhaps after that, we will finally get some new information on Dragon Quest 12, but no further word on when the next new game in the series will be here for now.
FAQ
Are Dragon Quest 3 And Dragon Warrior 3 The Same Game?
Yes, they are. Dragon Quest games were called Dragon Warrior in North America up until and including Dragon Quest 7, after which point the Dragon Quest name was used worldwide.
Is Dragon Quest 3 A Prequel?
Yes, the events of Dragon Quest 3 take place before the first two games, hence Square Enix's decision to remake the third game first and have the prior two follow at a later date.
