Dragon's Dogma 2 has a massive roster of monsters that spawn throughout your journey from the initial areas of Melvee to the Agamen Volcanic Island. As you move from Vermund to Bakbattahl and further ahead, you will notice most monsters are upgraded versions of their counterparts.
The phantasms are one such ghostly monster, an advanced version of phantoms. These creatures do not have a physical form and are merely ghosts that appear only during the nighttime. The phantasms drop better loot-quality items, and this guide breaks down how to get Astracite resources from them.
How To Get Astracite
You need to defeat the phantasms to get a chance to receive Astracite in the game. This enemy type is an upgrade to the phantoms that burst into frightening laughter when you venture into the woods to the west of Vernworth during the night.
The Astracite is one of the upgrade materials you need to enhance some of the best armor and weapons in the game.
The phantasms, besides dropping Astracite, also drop Silver Crown , and Putrid Gold Tooth too. All of these are valuable finds, not just for the sake of leveling up the gear, but to sell them and get gold faster in the game.
Other than killing the phantasms to get Astracite material, you can visit a few wandering merchants that also sell this resource. We have found that Folkes, who mostly roams around Checkpoint Rest Town, Ancient Battlegrounds, and the roads in between, has always Astracite in stock and sells them for 600 per item.
How To Find And Defeat Phantasms
If you have already beaten the phantoms, then defeating phantasms requires no different approach. However, you still want to come prepared, as the phantasms have a higher health pool and do more damage to you and your party members. Thephantasms appear blue in color instead of white-colored phantoms.
While the phantoms appear in Vermund during the night, the phantasms appear in Bakbattahl during the nighttime only. The best way to spot them is to go south from Bakbattahl.
There is no fixed spot to find these ghostly creatures. However, whenever you see a blue light, try to rush towards it, and you will find the phantasms.
Defeating phantasms requires you to have at least one mage or a sorcerer vocation character in the party. We found that using the main pawn as a mage and controlling a sorcerer increases the chances of defeatingthe phantasms faster.
That is because the phantasms are weak towards magic damage and take less damage from physical attacks. Having two magic wielders in the party will ensure you hit the ghost where it hurts, defeat it faster, and get a chance to receive the Astracite.
