Every dungeon in Hinterberg is different, and many of them offer challenges that require a bit of planning before diving in. Thankfully, it's nothing you can't handle. With a bit of help and a little practice, you can solve any puzzle and complete the dungeons spread across each region.
In Dungeons of Hinterberg, the Icicle Trail is one of the most difficult dungeons to get to, and not because there are monsters surrounding it. It's the only dungeon of its kind in the game, since you'll need to raise your social stats (or find a sponsor) to grant you access. Here's how to get there and beat the dungeon in no time!
How To Unlock The Icicle Trail Dungeon
The Icicle Trail can only be reached by taking the helicopter in Kolmstein, but not just anyone can use it. You'll either need to have an incredibly high Renown stat or find someone who does to sponsor you.
Your Renown will need to be over 200, which means you'll have to complete other dungeons or spend time with people like Renaud in your free time.
Renaud can sponsor you, but you'll have to be friends with him first. Otherwise, just wait and make your way to the helicopter in your own time.
Icicle Trail Puzzles
The Icicle Trail dungeon is a long and winding series of puzzles. They all mesh together well, but you'll have to push through each of them to reach the exit.
The Icicle Trail combines all elements from the other Kolmstein dungeons, and you'll find the puzzle solutions below – organized in the order in which they appear.
All Eyes On You
Use your hoverboard to cross great distances in a short amount of time since it's a big dungeon. The first puzzle you'll come across is a locked door with a constellation on it. You'll need to adjust the lasers to make the same pattern on the door.
Interact with the laser that has a red handle to reposition it. Do this twice and then fire your ray beam at it to create the pattern and unlock the door. Proceed to the rail and use your hoverboard to cross.
You'll wind up on a strange little planet with a deactivated rail. Here, you'll need to shoot the ray beam into two yellow eyes attached to masses of goo. They can be found on opposite sides of the rail. With them dealt with, hop on and move to the next area. Here, you'll encounter another locked door, though this time you'll need to hit all seven yellow eyes.
Use the hoverboard to quickly move around and blast the eyes with your ray beam to open the big door and press on.
The next area will have you speed across a rail and use your ray beam at the same time. You'll need to hit all of the eyes in one go to progress. A narrow tunnel will be your practice, but the open cave after it will test your reflexes.
Lasers And Hoverboards
Next, you'll have to solve another constellation door. Interact with the southern laser once, then the northern laser twice to reposition them. Then, fire your beam at the four-way laser between the two to recreate the pattern and unlock the door. Take the rail to a small planet, then hop fire at two yellow eyes to activate the next rail.
The following puzzle involves opening a big door, but you need to activate two lasers at a time. Take the rail to a hidden snowflake where you'll find a yellow gem. If you hit the snowflake with a blast from your beam, the gem will be transported to the other side.
However, it will get stuck on the cliffs floating nearby. Use your beam to fire at the snowman-shaped nodes on little floating islands. Doing so will lower them so that the carrier can move the gem across the way.
The platforms will rise after a few seconds, so make sure to get a head start before triggering the transport.
Once the carrier passes the first two nodes, hop back on the rail to reach the other side and interact with the remaining nodes. From there, place the gem into the laser and cast your ray beam at the other inactive laser to blast away the goo. The door will open up ahead and you can proceed to the next puzzle.
Here, you'll have to navigate a series of lasers to reach a golden gem so you can activate the mechanism that lowers the ledge, as it's too high to climb on your own. Below are the steps you need to take:
- Climb the platform with the active laser and remove its gem.
- Place the gem back inside and use your beam to raise the far platform.
- Circle around to reach the golden gem on the other side. Put it in the carrier and blast the snowflake to send it over.
- Make your way back to the beginning and place the gem inside the inactive laser.
- Raise the middle platform with your beam so you can cross over and climb the now-accessible ledge.
The Final Race
The last constellation puzzle requires you to move a rotating platform to align the lasers. Interact with this wooden wheel once, then rotate the two-way laser twice and the one-way laser once.
Fire at the two-way laster with the red handle to light everything up and open the door. All that's left in the final puzzle, which is pretty straightforward: you need to finish a race.
Hop on your hoverboard and head to the starting line. You'll race across the slopes and dodge obstacles all while trying to beat the clock to reach the finish line. There's more than enough time, so don't rush. Stay cautious so you don't fall off the track and set yourself back.
Make sure you pass through every flag, or you'll have to start over!
Once you successfully complete the race, a bridge will connect you to the exit portal. Head on up there to gather your prize from the chest and wrap up the dungeon.
Collect your stamp for the Icicle Trail and exit the dungeon, ready to return to Hinterberg and start your next adventure. You're one step r to finishing every dungeon in the region!
