There are over two dozen dungeons in Dungeons of Hinterberg, and several of them are specifically designed with unique bosses to challenge. These bosses aren't your typical monster, and you'll need to carefully plan around their attacks to survive and defeat them. Thankfully, you won't have to do it alone – we've broken down the best ways to defeat these big bad monsters.
In the swamps of Brunnelsumpf, you'll face off against the formidable Wassermann, who is uniquely challenging as a boss due to his multiple attack patterns. The strategy to defeat him will test your reflexes, but if you can defeat him, you'll be one of the best slayers in Hinterberg!
How To Unlock Wassermann's Arena
Since Wassermann's Arena is a boss dungeon, you'll need to complete several other dungeons in Brunnelsumpf to activate the portal. You can reach the portal by making your way to the adventurer's camp and following the path past the Tower of Trials dungeon.
From there, you'll need to use a cube to reach the ledge, then climb over the bridge and make your way to the d gate. Use another cube here to prop open the gate and enter the secluded area. You'll unlock a fast travel point and be able to access the portal.
Below are the other dungeons in Brunnelsumpf you'll need to complete before the portal is activated:
- Prisonkeep Island Dungeon
- Desolate Castle Dungeon
- Lighthouse Reef Dungeon
- Tower of Trials Dungeon
Wassermann's Arena Strategy
Once you enter the dungeon, you'll need to use your Plasma Ball to activate the raft to reach the arena. Once there, the doors are d, but there's a nearby bridge that will rhythmically dip into the toxic water due to the shifting weights attached.
Use your slime cube to stop the weights from moving so you can cross the bridge, then make your way to the edge of the platform and use a Plasma Ball on the fish tunnel. This will power the gate and allow you to enter the arena.
Watery Pool Dweller Stage
As soon as you enter the arena, Wassermann will show himself and begin to attack you. At first, he'll pound his fist into the ground and knock you back with a wave. Dodge roll to avoid this attack or put some distance between the two of you. Use your slime cube to trap his fist before he pulls it back.
This will stop him from moving for a few seconds. Use these precious moments to move to his left side (your right) and use a Plasma Ball on his shoulder, where you'll notice a fish tunnel. The magic will travel through the tunnel and strike him in the chest, dealing damage.
If you're low on MP, orbs will drop regularly around the arena from the spigots. Pick them up!
Each time you do this, Wassermann will become more ferocious. His attacks will have you roam around the arena to avoid waves, rockets, and water spouts. Keep your distance and wait for the right moment to strike.
Once his HP reaches zero, Wassermann will sink into the pool. You can leave the arena and make your way to the exit.
Stomping Vagrant Stage
After climbing your way to the top of the dungeon, you'll come across a vast pool of water. Step into it, and Wassermann will leap from the arena into the pool. He's not finished with you yet, but now he's much more vulnerable.
The downside is that he'll summon more monsters to keep you busy. Defeat them to replenish MP as needed, but otherwise avoid them. Instead, focus on trapping Wassermann's foot in a slime cube. It will cause him to trip, allowing you to unleash your Attack Conduits and heavy attacks to deal lots of damage.
You can still attack him while he walks , but he'll stomp and knock you down repeatedly.
Continue to knock over Wassermann and beat him down until he finally dissolves into the water. From there, you're free to collect loot and use the exit portal. Don't forget to collect your stamp to officially complete the dungeon and mark your victory over the Brunnelsumpf boss dungeon.
