The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC starts with you traveling to the Land of Shadow to follow Miquella and figure out his motives while exploring the place where it all began. The DLC has brought in a lot of new things, like weapons, amours, and even more incantations that you can put to good use fighting the new bosses.
With its pretty sizable map, the Land of the Shadow is home to thousands of ancient creatures and loads of new incantations, some of which are truly great. The gameplay lures you into exploring vast areas to get the best incantations available, especially if you’re doing a faith build.
Some of these incantations are related to, or come from, late-game bosses or areas. If you're concerned about spoilers, then be advised.
10 Pest-Thread Spears
Attacks Appear Like Thread Spears
The Kindred of Rot are among the most annoying enemies in the base game, especially because of these spears and another version of this attack. You can get a version of the Pest-Thread Spears for yourself in the DLC by heading to the Church of the Bud's main entrance and finding it in a room guarded by a single enemy.
Pest-Thread Spears allows you to summon two big threaded spears, which are enough to do solid damage to any enemy. It comes in handy, especially on larger targets like bosses. It cannot be used consistently due to its long cast time, though, so you have to use it as a secondary spell.
9 Heal From Afar
Heals Your Allies Even At A Decent Distance
It is essential to heal yourself and your summons constantly while playing the DLC, especially when enemies and bosses linger around every corner, and the Heal from Afar incantation truly shines here.
Using the Heal from Afar spell, you can fire a projectile that heals your allies fighting at a distance. It is a must-have incantation if you’re summoning someone to help you in a fight. It can be found early in the game by visiting north of Moorth Ruins, which is present near a golden tree in a small cave.
8 Divine Beast Tornado
Launches A Strong Tornado Wind Attack
An exclusive magic spell from Shadow of the Erdtree, the Divine Beast Tornado first appears when players face the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. When nearby, the Lion will start to spin, which causes it to direct tornado-like heavy winds towards you, and it hits really hard.
When summoned, this spell has a similar effect, as it brings up a storm that can project a tornado toward any enemy. Using this spell, you can break the posture of anyone you aim towards and push them back while combining other spells to eventually put them to death.
7 Minor Erdtree
Continuously Restores HP For A Few Seconds
The Minor Erdtree is another new healing incantation that summons an illusory Erdtree, which grows in the ground in front of the caster and restores HP to them and their allies for thirty seconds.
Having a Faith stat requirement of 70, the Minor Erdtree might not be an incantation you would want to equip on the first go, but it's one of the better incantations to use in PvP invasions. It can be acquired at the Shaman Village, located in the Hinterlands, a secret area with its own little requirement to reach.
6 Knight's Lightning Spear
Summons A Golden Lightning Spear
Another ancient Dragon cult incantation, the Knight’s Lightening Spear makes a lightning spear appear, which can be directed towards enemies. The spell also hurls four additional projectiles from the ancient dragon crests that make sure your aim hits the target with a lethal blow.
It’s a versatile spell that has a short cast time and can be obtained by getting to the Scorpion River Catacombs and entering the hall with a set of eyes that can cause death blight by looking at you. Behind these eyes is the room where you can grab the incantation and add it to your arsenal.
5 Midra’s Flame Of Frenzy
Spew Frenzied Flame All Around, And Deal Decent AOE Damage
One of the finest new incantations, Midra’s Flame of Frenzy is a wild and dangerous incantation, not just for opponents but also for the caster, too. The Flame of Frenzy spell can summon the Frenzied Flame and cause a yellow flame to ooze out and hit multiple targets.
Unlike the other Frenzied fire attacks, this one inflicts a Madness effect on you and your opponent, and you need to have a decent amount of faith to use it. To obtain this incantation you must defeat Midra and trade his remembrance for it, and you’re all set to inflict and accept madness upon everyone and yourself.
4 Fire Serpent
Powerful Serpent-Like Flame Attack
The Fire Serpent is an offensive Incantation used by Messmer’s Fire Knights that can be obtained once you visit the Storehouse Back Section Site of Grace and go up a ladder to look for a corpse at the corner end of a balcony to get the incantation.
You may have noticed that in the Scadu Altus region, most opponents use the same attack, looking like a flashing flame appearing like a serpent in the air. The Fire Serpent incantation is quite FP efficient and has a slight delay before it reaches the opponent, which can sometimes roll catch unsuspecting players, but can be a bit useless in PVE.
3 Ghostflame Breath
Breath Attack Of The Ghostflame Dragon
The first Ghostflame Dragon you run into can be found near the Greatbridge, and its breath attack, Ghostflame, covers a huge area with misty fire and is enough to inflict a significant amount of damage when you face it. Like every variation of the many Dragon breaths you face in Elden Ring, the Ghostflame Dragon has an incantation that mirrors the attack.
The incantation version is similar to other Dragon Breath incantations in the base game but kicks it up a notch in damage and frostbite buildup. You can get this spell in the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion at the expense of three Dragon Hearts.
2 Bayle’s Flame Lightning
Channels a Form Of Dread Dragon With Flame-Infused Talon Attacks
There are quite a few Dragon Communion Incantations in the DLC, but only a few match the aura that comes with Bayle’s Flame Lightning, which, when used against any enemy, deals a ton of damage and looks visually epic.
By slaying the dragon beast, Bayle the Dread, you can take its heart to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion to acquire the dreadful Bayle’s Flame Lightning Incantation. Once you have the incantation, you carry the form of a dread dragon in your right arm, using which you can slash any enemy really, really hard with a dragon’s talon bone charged with flame lightning.
1 Light Of Miquella
Summons A Lethal Light-beam From Above
The Light of Miquella is a powerful Faith spell that can be obtained by killing Promised Consort Radahn, the final boss of the DLC. You can then trade their Remembrance to Enia at the Roundtable Hold to get it for yourself.
When you use the spell, it propels into the air, and a huge pillar of light appears that annihilates your opponents with an explosion, followed by several more light beams falling towards the ground. It is without a doubt one of the most versatile incantations in the base game and a must-have for faith builds.
