Learn how to equip and throw grenades in Fallout 4.

Fallout 4: How To Throw Grenades

Most first-person shooters allow you to throw grenades of some kind. Fallout 4 is no different in that regard, despite also being an action RPG. However, where the Bethesda game does differ from most other FPS titles is how tricky it is to throw grenades.

In Call of Duty and Halo, you likely figure out how to throw them within seconds of picking them up for the first time. In Fallout 4, however, there is a bit of a process you have to go through, so not everyone knows how to do it. You can find that exact information here, though.

How To Equip Grenades

Unlike a lot of games that include grenades, they aren't automatically equipped when you pick them up. So, before you can throw them, you must do that.

Therefore, bring your Pip-Boy up, head to the 'INV' tab, make sure you're on 'weapons,' and look for your grenades. Once you see them, simply select them — like you would a gun — and a little square will appear next to the grenades to show that they're equipped.

How To Throw Grenades

Once you have grenades equipped, you can throw one by holding down the melee button (RB, R1, or Alt) and letting go.

This is also the process for putting down mines.

Interestingly, there is no animation when you initially hold the button, so it isn't clear that you're doing anything, even in third-person mode. The only indicator is a little 'click' noise that happens when you hold down the button.

You don't have to worry about holding the button down for too long, as it won't blow up in your hand.

It isn't easy to measure distance with the grenades, as no throwing indicator pops up on the screen. It's one of those games where you have to tilt the camera upwards to get more distance on your throw.
