Everyone is SPECIAL, and some are more SPECIAL than others.

Fallout Shelter: How To Improve Your Dweller Stats

As you oversee the operations of your vault dwellers in Fallout Shelter, you'll find that some are better suited to vault life than others. Every dweller has individual stats that make them SPECIAL, and these traits are what you should be looking at when assigning them to different rooms.

These stats can be quite low when you start out, but there are ways to make your vault dwellers tougher. Everyone has a place in the vault, and if everyone's going to survive, it will take cooperation and SPECIAL skills to make it work. Here's everything you need to know to run a very SPECIAL vault!

What Happens When You Level Up?

In many video games, leveling up grants a boost to your stats. In Fallout Shelter, however, only the dweller's HP increases. Leveling up is important for dealing with incidents and exploring the wasteland, and having plenty of HP will help them survive.

Still, the SPECIAL stats you see are what need to be improved to have the most efficient vault you can. Thankfully, there's a way to do that.

How To Improve SPECIAL Stats

To make your vault dwellers all the more SPECIAL, you'll need to build training rooms. There are seven training rooms that correspond to each stat, and your dwellers can work in those rooms to increase the desired stat.

The SPECIAL stats stand for:

  • Strength
  • Perception
  • Endurance
  • Charisma
  • Intelligence
  • Agility
  • Luck

Below is a table of each training room and how they can help your vault dwellers excel:

Training Room

Assigned Room

Water Treatment

Water Purification

600 caps

Athletics Room

600 caps

Science Lab

600 caps

Fitness Room

600 caps

Game Room

600 caps

Living Quarters

Radio Studio

Weight Room

Power Generator

Nuclear Reactor

600 caps

Additionally, the following stats provide bonuses:

  • Agility impacts how fast a dweller attacks per round.
  • Endurance adds to the dweller's maximum HP each time they level up.
  • Luck increases the chances of a successful Rush, how many resources you can earn from each room, and how many items you find in the wasteland.
  • Perception impacts the likelihood of a dweller finding new locations while exploring the wasteland.

How To Breed Better Dwellers

Additionally, you can selectively breed vault dwellers to get the desired stats. Parents with high stats will pass them on to any offspring, so pairing two dwellers with different high stats will create a child that takes after them.

It will take time for the children to grow up, but rinse and repeat the process to design vault dwellers with desirable traits you can use to maximize efficiency. This frees up other vault dwellers to go explore while the most SPECIAL ones stay safe at home.
