Remaking old Fallout games is all the rage these days among modders, what with Fallout 2 getting an ambitious fan-made remake and the recent release of Fallout: London. Not to be left out, a group of modders have been working to remake the original Fallout, although it won't be in the top down style that fans of the original will be familiar with.
Instead, this project aims to recreate Fallout 1 with the Fallout 4 engine, letting us experience the original game in the series in first-person and with real-time combat for the first time. While there was radio silence on the project for quite a while, it seems as though significant progress has been made throughout 2024.
Making good on a promise that this summer would be one of the most "thrilling seasons" for Fallout fans, the team behind this project has announced via their Twitter account that a demo for the Fallout 1 remake will be made available later this week. On August 8 (that's this Thursday) at exactly 9PM ET, you'll be able to play a small chunk of the game for yourself, though we don't know exactly what part of the game the demo will include.
Here's How To Play The Fan-Made Fallout Remake
If you're interested, you'll need to ensure you're actually in the Discord server for Fallout: Vault 13 (a link to which you can find here), as download links will be posted there when the demo is made public. Of course, you'll also need a copy of Fallout 4 and a PC capable of running it, whilst you'll also likely want to get rid of any existing mods you have installed to make sure the process is as smooth as possible. Hopefully, we won't have another Fallout: London fiasco.
You could also have your say on development too, as the team is eager to hear feedback about the project to make improvements where necessary for the final release. We still don't know when that will be, though I'm sure Fallout: Vault 13 will share details on the full launch when it's ready. Until then, we have a demo to try out, and there are plenty more fan-made Fallout projects to be played while we wait.
