Fields of Mistria, a new farm-sim RPG from Chicago-based indie developers NPC Studio, is proving a runaway hit on Steam. Released on August 5, Fields of Mistria has cultivated a 'Very Positive' review score with over 450 reviews.
A humorous point of discussion that has arisen in Fields of Mistria's short lifespan surrounds a character called Olric. Olric is a former miner who helps out around the blacksmithy, owned by his younger brother March. A section of the game's burgeoning fanbase has become smitten with the "adorable" Olric and is already petitioning NPC Studio to make him romanceable.
Fields of Mistria does allow dating, similar to the system in Stardew Valley. However, Olric is not one of the game's 12 dating candidates. You can marry his standoffish brother March, though. According to Olric, March "isn't great with other people."
Let Us Date The Himbo
A post on Fields of Mistria's Steam forum is petitioning NPC Studio to make Olric a marriage candidate, and it currently has over 100 replies echoing this request. "They gave us a himbo but didn't allow us to smooch, please…" reads one of the replies.
Fields of Mistria is currently in early access, so NPC Studio will certainly be taking everyone's feedback on board. The early access launch trailer does specifically outline that there are 12 marriage candidates, so we don't really know if the developers are open to adding more.
A roadmap was revealed with the release of early access, with a major update intended during Q4 2024. It doesn't mention any new marriage candidates, just new heart events for dateable villagers at 6 hearts and additional NPC dialogue.
Under 'Future Updates', NPC Studio plans to add 8 and 10 heart events for dateable NPCs, as well as marriage and the ability to have children. Once again, there is no mention of expanding the pool of dating candidates.
NPC Studio is a team passionate about farm-sim RPGs, citing Harvest Moon as the launching point for their admiration for the genre. The studio wants to "contribute meaningfully to the genre — embracing its history while continuing to push it forward."
Fields of Mistria is currently available in early access on Steam.
