Final Fantasy 14's fifth expansion, Dawntrail, kicks off with a voyage to the New World of Tural. Your goal in Tural is to assist your new friend Wuk Lamat on her quest to become the peaceful ruler of Tural, the Dawnservent.
To prove herself worthy of the throne, Wuk Lamat will need help gathering seven keystones while retreading the Tuliyollal Saga as told by the current ruler, Gulool Ja Ja. After gathering the first two keystones, you'll need to make your way along the Ihuykatumu river, the first dungeon of the expansion, to continue on your quest. Here's our complete walkthrough for this dungeon.
How To Unlock Ihuykatumu
Ihuykatumu is a level 91 dungeon that is unlocked through the following Main Scenario Quest.
- Quest Name: For All Turali
- NPC Location: Wuk Lamat — Tuliyollal (X:11.1, Y:15.0)
This quest will become available shortly after completing the split-path quests in which you gather the keystones in Urqopacha and Kozama'uka. Once you've completed both and returned to Tuliyollal, "For All Turali" is only one short quest away.
Prime Punutiy
The first boss of Ihuykatumu is the Prime Punutiy. This fight is fairly straightforward, but there are a few attacks to keep an eye out for.
Attack Name |
Type |
Details |
---|---|---|
Punutiy Press |
Roomwide AoE |
Deals damage to all party members. Get ready to heal this damage. |
Hydrowave |
Conal AoE |
Deals damage in a conal AoE to the front of the boss. |
Resurface |
AoE |
The Prime Punutiy will move to the water side of the arena before performing a large conal AoEto its front, dealing continuous damage for a few seconds. Then, it will create a series of different AoEs around the arena, combining lines and circles of different sizes. Do your best to avoid this onslaught of AoEs.
|
Song of the Punutiy |
Special/AoE |
Summons four Punutiy of different sizes to each corner of the arena, which will then tether with each player before targeting them with an AoE that depends on the size of the Punutiy.
Ultimately, the size of your Punutiy doesn't matter, just move all the way into your corner of the arena to avoid overlapping your AoE with other players'. After the AoEs resolve, the Punutiy will become targetable; defeat them before returning your attention to the boss. |
Shore Shaker |
Consecutive AoE |
A series of three consecutively larger ring AoEs that detonate from the boss. Stand just outside the edge of the first AoE then move into its newly created safe area to avoid all instances of this attack. |
Resurface is definitely the most important attack to watch out for during this fight. Even when you know it's coming, it can be difficult to avoid all of its AoEs. Still, if you watch carefully, you'll be able to prioritize which ones to avoid first and make it through this attack.
Drowsie
The second boss is Drowsie, who uses attacks similar to Goobbues you may have faced in the past.
Attack Name |
Type |
Details |
---|---|---|
Uppercut |
Tankbuster |
Deals high damage to the Tank. Use defensive cooldowns to mitigate. |
Sow/Drowsy Dance |
Special/AoE |
Drowsie will summon four vine tentacles facing different directions that will then perform a line AoE in the direction they are facing. Then, Drowsie will continue to dance, increasing the size of the vines and the subsequent line AoEs. Watch where the vines are facing and move accordingly to avoid taking damage. |
Sneeze |
Conal AoE |
Deals damage in a wide conal AoE to the front of the boss. Get behind Drowsie to avoid. |
Spit |
Summon |
Drowsie will spit out several mimic slimes that will then transform into targetable enemies. Some of these enemies will then cast Flagrant Spread, targeting an ally with a circle AoE. If you are targeted by one of these, move away from the rest of the party while you kill the rest of the mimic slimes. |
The only attack to really be mindful of during this fight is Sow and Drowsy Dance. The vine tentacle's line AoEs can get pretty big, so you'll need to be careful when dodging them. Other than that, Drowsie's other mechanics should be easy to deal with.
Apollyon
The final boss of Ihuykatumu is Apollyon, the Apex Predator.
Attack Name |
Type |
Details |
---|---|---|
Razor Zephyr |
Line AoE |
Deals damage in a line to the front of the boss. |
Blade |
Tankbuster |
Deals high damage to the Tank. After feeding on Sandworms later in the fight, this attack will increase in size and inflict Windburn, dealing damage over time. A second ring AoE will then appear around the Tank, forcing all players to move to them. |
High Wind |
Roomwide AoE |
Several monsters will appear on the battlefield and start to attack Apollyon, who will then cast High Wind, dealing damage to all party members and killing these other monsters. Then, it will begin to consume them, powering up Apollyon's next attack depending on the type of monster it consumed.
|
Swarming Locust/Blades of Famine |
Line AoE |
Apollyon will jump around the arena several times before performing four line AoEs going in different directions. Find the safe spot and quickly move there to avoid this attack. Apollyon will perform this combo again. |
Levinsickle |
AoE |
Deals damage in four circle AoEs before leaving two of them behind. These two circles will then cast overlapping radial cone AoEs. Find the safe spot and move there to avoid both sets of AoEs. |
Thunder III |
AoE Markers |
Targets all players with an AoE marker. Spread out to avoid overlapping these. |
Razor Storm |
Line AoE |
Apollyon will jump to one side of the arena before performing a massive line AoE to its front, covering the majority of the arena. Quickly move near the boss to avoid this attack. |
Windwhistle |
Summon/AoE |
Summons a tornado that slowly moves around the arena, periodically launching line AoEs in several directions. Watch the path of the tornado and move accordingly every so often to avoid these AoEs.
|
There's quite a bit to keep track of during this fight, but the attack most likely to trip you up is Windwhistle. The tornado can be unpredictable, especially if you're focused on avoiding Razor Gale or Thunder III. Luckily, the tornado's line AoEs don't deal the most damage, so you can survive behind hit once or twice.
However, they do inflict Vulnerability Up , so you'll want to do your best to avoid them regardless.
Once you've defeated Apollyon, the dungeon will be complete! Open up the chests on the way out and continue through the MSQ.
