How To Start The Melee DPS Role Quests

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail - Melee DPS Role Quests Guide

Before you can begin any of the Role Quests in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, you must first complete 'The Feat of Pots' Main Scenario Quest (MSQ), which will promptBr'uk Evu to approach you in Tuliyollal asking you to speak to him when you have free time.

Speaking to Br'uk (X:12.3, Y:14.3) again after that cutscene will trigger another lengthy cutscene. Following that cutscene, all Role Quests will become available, allowing you to pick up any of them, so long as you have at least one Job of that specific role leveled to at least 90.

The Hunter And The Hunted Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

Following your conversation with Br'uk, head over to Shashepya (X:12.6, Y: 14.7) and speak with her to begin the 'The Hunter and the Hunted' Melee DPS Role Quest. Next, you will have to travel to Kugane, where you will talk to I'toca, who will give you the rundown of what's happening.

From here, follow the waypoints and talk to residents of Kugane. After that, you will survey a few points of interest until the villain reveals themselves before transforming into a bird and taking to the skies. I'toca will hastily draw her bow, center her shot, and… miss. Having them get away.

Return to I'toca and speak with her to complete the quest and obtain your reward, which will be the following:

The Hunter And The Hunted Rewards

  • 994560 EXP
  • 2000 Gil

A Sea Of Blood Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

A Sea of Blood is the next quest for the Melee DPS, but you must be at least Level 92 before you can start it and must complete the previous quest first. If those requirements are met, head back to Kugane and speak with I'toca (X:13.3, Y:10.2) to accept and begin the 'A Sea of Blood' sidequest.

After speaking with I'toca, head to Pier #2 in Kugane (X:8.6, Y:10) and walk into 'The Ruby Sea' region. Once you're here, you will speak to two NPCs in Sakazuki to gather information. Upon doing that, you will talk with I'toca again, who will then have you head to the Isle of Bekko.

Arriving at the Isle of Bekko, you will talk to I'toca, triggering a lengthy cutscene that reveals the Thief masquerading as Captain Rasho. Using her potion, I'toca will dispel the illusion, having the Thief transform into a bird yet again. Like before, I'toca will draw her bow and arrow, line up the shot, and miss it.

From there, you will head back to Kugane and speak with I'toca, who will grant you the reward for the quest, thus completing it. The rewards are as follows:

A Sea Of Blood Rewards

  • 1021440 EXP
  • 1000 Gil

Who's Who Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

Like the last Melee DPS Role Quest, this one also has a prerequisite level you must reach before starting it: Level 94. You must also have completed the previous two Melee DPS Role Quests beforehand. With those requirements met you can head back to Kugane and speak with I'toca (X:13.3, Y:10.2) to accept and begin the 'Who's Who' sidequest.

Starting this quest will have I'toca reveal to you that the Thief has been seen disguising themselves as Lord Hein. You two will then quickly make your way to Namai in the Yanxia region, as that is where he's next likely to go. Upon arriving in Namai, you will speak with three residents to see if any recent chaos has been caused.

However, as you and I'toca will soon learn, everything seems to be going well there until a random person approaches you, acting like he had just spoken with you a few minutes ago, claiming he gave you directions to the House of the Fierce mere moments ago, tipping you off that the Thief is now impersonating you.

Following the waypoint and the random civilian's directions, you and I'toca will then arrive at the House of Fierce, where a cutscene will play out, revealing that the Thief is, indeed, impersonating you in an attempt to kick off a war between the Azim Steppe and Dohma.

As you could have guessed, the Thief will transform himself into a bird, and I'toca will line up her shot, missing it and having him escape your grasp again. After this, you will return to Kugane and speak with I'toca, where she will reveal that she's not actually I'toca but, instead, Kuiyki. Completing the quest, offering you the following rewards:

Who's Who Rewards

  • 1048320 EXP
  • 1000 Gil

Cornered Prey Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

Completing the previous three Melee DPS Role Quests and achieving Level 96 will unlock the 'Cornered Prey' Melee DPS Role Quests, allowing you to travel back to Kugane and speak with Kuiyki (X:13.3, Y:10.2) to progress the story. After speaking with her and accepting the quest, a childhood friend of the Thief will approach both of you and reveal that the Thief's name is Samidare.

The childhood friend of the Samidare also reveals that he's hiding on Hell's Lid, urging you and Kuiyki to head there in haste in an attempt to put an end to his rampage. So, fast-travel to the Rasen Kaikyo area of The Ruby Sea region and head over to Hell's Lid.

Once at Hell's Lid, you will survey three separate areas, with the third leading to an ambush by Red Kojin. After making swift work of the Red Kojin, Kuiyki will approach you, seeming slightly off. But before you can act, she averts your attention before going for a finishing blow, before being tackled to the ground by the real Kuiyki, revealing that the one with you this entire time on Hell's Lid was none other than Samidare.

Samidare will return to his feet, transform into a bird, and fly off again. From here, you will head back to Kugane and will speak with Kuiyki to complete the quest and receive the following:

Cornered Prey Rewards

  • 1075200 EXP
  • 1000 Gil

Imposter Syndrome Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

The penultimate quest of this long Melee DPS Role Questline becomes available to you after obtaining Level 98 and completing all previous quests covered above. After that has been accomplished, you can head back to Kugane and speak with Kuiyki (X:13.3, Y:10.2) to begin 'Imposter Syndrome.'

Beginning this quest will have Kuiyki reveal that her special potion will no longer work on Samidare as they have been ruined by the ocean's water when she was pushed overboard, having you make a quick stop to the Material Supplier, Shirakashi, in Kugane to see if she has the proper ingredients to craft more.

After speaking with Shirakashi, you will learn that she does not have the required ingredients. However, as you're getting ready to leave, Kuiyki will learn what eyeglasses effectively do, ultimately being pointed to Yamabuki a bit up the road, an artisan who specializes in making glasses.

Upon speaking with Yamabuki, you will have to gather a few materials, having Kuiyki go one way and you go the other. Your route will take you to Onokoro, where you must plant Glittering Gravel as bait and then wait for a Shoal Iwamushi to appear. Quickly dispatch the enemy to obtain a Cluster of Aurulent Quartz.

With the Cluster of Aurulent Quartz in your possession, head back to Kugane and give the item to Yamabuki, triggering a cutscene where he will eventually craft Kuiyki a pair of glasses, allowing her to see objects at a distance, enabling her to hit shots that are well in front of her. Finally. From here, you will speak with Kuiyki again to complete the quest and obtain the following:

Imposter Syndrome Rewards

  • 1102080 EXP
  • 2000 Gil
  • Fruit and Aloe Jelly

A Hunter True Melee DPS Role Quest Walkthrough

Our fifth and final Melee DPS Role Quest becomes available at Level 100 and requires you to beat all the quests above to access it. Upon doing that, you can return to Kugane and speak with Kuiyki (X:13.3, Y:10.2) to pick up and begin the 'A Hunter True' sidequest.

And, to kick things off strong, Cirina makes a surprise appearance, informing you that Samidare has made his appearance known in the Azime Steppe, masquerading as yourself yet again, in an attempt to wage war between them and Doma. So, from here, you and Kuiyki make way for Reunion to see if he's still there trying to spread chaos.

After arriving at Reunion and gathering information from three merchants, you will learn that Magnai has been acting strange lately, tipping you off that Samidare may be impersonating him. However, nothing is preparing you for the events that transpire next as you enter the Bardam's Mettle.

Upon entering Bardam's Mettle, you will notice that someone is, in fact, acting strangely, and it's not Magnai. Instead, Sadu appears to be the one out of control here, engaging in a romantic and oddly flirtatious way with Magnai. And, before you can warn Magnai what's going on, Samidare smashes him over the head, knocking him unconscious.

From here, you will be locked in a battle with Samidare, having him change into several forms, ultimately ending with the Kamuy of the Nine Tails, a fearsome challenger, to be sure. Besting Samidare in combat will have him attempt to flee yet again, turning himself into a bird before taking to the skies, where Kuiyki will line up the shot and hit him dead on this time. It seems those glasses helped out after all.

Following this, you will speak with Kuiyki once more before heading back to Tuliyollal, where you will talk to Shashepya (remember her) to finish the quest and obtain the following items:

A Hunter True Rewards

  • x2 Savage Aim Materia XI
  • x2 Savage Might Materia XI
  • x2 Heavens' Eye Materia XI
  • 1000 Gil
