Here’s how long Zau’s emotional journey through Kenzera will take you.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau, the first game from the newly-founded Surgent Studios is both an emotional exploration of dealing with grief and a satisfying Metroidvania that mixes together nail-biting fast-paced platforming with a unique combat system based on swapping (or dancing, as the game calls it) between two distinct styles.

It's on the simpler side of the genre, but there's still plenty of great exploration to be found within. If you're wondering if you have the time to fit Tales of Kenzera: Zau in, I've played the game to completion, and have all the answers for you here.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is split up into four different acts, with each act focusing on a different area in Kenzera and a different boss that Zau has to overcome. Each act can take around two to three hours depending on how much exploration you do, although you won't be able to get around the whole map at once since you'll need to unlock abilities to see everything.

It took me around ten hours to finish Tales of Kenzera: Zau with a reasonable amount of exploration in between the main storyline. By the end of the game, I still had plenty of collectibles to find and some areas I hadn't explored all that much, but if you're just here for the gut-punching story, then you can finish it in a few sessions.

There aren't really any side quests to complete in Tales of Kenzera: Zau, so most of the exploring is optional and driven by the player's desire to discover things.

How Long Does It Take To Fully Complete?

If you're looking to see absolutely everything that Zau has to offer, then you can easily add two or three more hours onto that run time, which is what it took me to do everything. There are a number of collectibles to be found in each area, such as Trinkets earned through completing challenges, and Reflection areas that increase your health.

There are also a number of combat challenges to complete, and some upgrades that can be unlocked by levelling Zau up, although that comes pretty naturally as you play the game. All in all, going for 100 percent completion will probably take around 13 to 14 hours, which makes it a pretty breezy Metroidvania.

The only thing that slows down the exploration is the fact that there aren't all that many fast-travel points. Expect to have to trek around the map a bit if you're trying to see everything.

It should be noted as well that Zau is fairly linear for the genre and easy enough to get around without too much trouble, which definitely cuts down on the overall playtime since most of the collectibles are simple to find.
