Even Deadpool wants to see Marvel vs. Capcom 4 get made, as he directly calls out a potential sequel in his latest comic book. I guess he doesn't consider Infinite a proper sequel.
Marvel vs. Capcom might be one of the most popular fighting games of all time, but things have been a little rough for fans over the past few years. After the disappointing and feature-bare release of Infinite in 2017, it seemed like we wouldn't be seeing another game in the series for quite some time, something that was true up until last month.
Capcom surprised everyone at the latest Nintendo Direct when it announced the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection (which notably features MvC2) was going to be releasing at some point in 2024. Fans were ecstatic about the series' return and have started hoping once more that we might eventually see a new entry. Hell, even Deadpool is getting in on the fun.
The Latest Issue Of Deadpool References Marvel Vs Capcom 4
Just a few days ago, the latest issue of Cody Ziglar's Deadpool (2024) run went live, which features Deadpool going up against a new villain called Death Grip. As showcased by Twitter user Stealth40k, there's one sequence in the comic where Deadpool pulls off a stylish move using his guns, which seems to be inspired by Taskmaster.
As he twirls around and shoots the final bad guy before ending up landing on his head, Deadpool says, "They should put that move… in Marvel vs. Capcom 4.", before turning to the reader and sticking his thumbs with a cheeky look on his face. Deadpool does chuck references around like they're going out of style, but it's notable considering we just had the announcement of the classic collection.
At first, I wondered why Deadpool was forgetting about the existence of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, but then I remembered that he wasn't even a playable character in that game. Guess he doesn't consider it a true sequel either.
Both Marvel and Capcom have remained tight-lipped about their crossover series for quite some time now, so to see it get such a big nod in the latest issue of Deadpool does generate some hope that we might see a true fourth game get made in the future. Of course, it's also just Deadpool acting like his usual fourth-wall-breaking self, so don't take it as an official announcement or anything.
