Manor Lords: How To Make Money

There are two types of currency systems that you will use in Manor Lords; regional wealth and your treasury. Both of these are essential to playing the game, but you will accumulate money for each one a bit differently. Thankfully, we are here to help you learn the difference and collect both.

In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to make money in Manor Lords. This will break down the specifics of regional wealth and your treasury, allowing you to be wealthy in both respects. First, let's look at the difference between the two.

Manor Lords is currently in Early Access on Steam and as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.

Regional Wealth Vs. The Treasury

Manor Lords: How To Make Money

Regional Wealth

Regional wealth is money that you make within a specific territory from buying and selling goods. This wealth is separate for each territory under your control. Your regional wealth will display to the left of the territory's name at the top of the screen.

This money does not belong to you; it's meant for your villagers to buy and spend with. Additionally , you cannot send regional wealth to other territories that you own. Instead, you will need to use a pack station to send items, which can then be sold.

Most of your regional wealth will be spent and accumulated by trading at the Trading Post. This money can be spent to upgrade buildings, add extension plots, and trade goods (including animals).

The Treasury

Your treasury is personal money that is collected from taxes that you impose from the manor. While taxes can be set for individual territories, they will all be added to the same total. Unlike regional wealth, you will always have the same amount in your treasury, regardless of what territory you are looking at.

This money belongs to you! The only time it will ever be spent is if you choose to do so.

The money in your treasury can be used for diplomacy and strengthening your army. For example, you can simply hire mercenaries to battle for you. Additionally, money from your treasury can be used to upgrade your retinue.

How To Get More Regional Wealth

The best way to get more regional wealth is to sell excess goods. Specifically, we recommend focusing on renewable items. For example, any wooden-based item can be sold without worrying about running out of resources. Trees can be regrown, so you will never completely run out.

Below, you can find some items that we recommend selling from the trading post.

You can set a surplus limit, which prevents any items from being sold beyond that point. For example, if you have a surplus limit of 100 planks, then anything over that will be sold. Once your plank inventory reaches 100, no more will be sold until you make more.

Best Items To Trade

Eggs and Vegetables (from burgage plot extensions)

Herbs

Shoes

Small Shields

Warbows

Honey

Planks

Be sure to look at the Trading Post and get a sense of how many items you have. If you have a burgage plot that makes items like warbows and shields, you may end up with a lot. As such, it's a good idea to sell these items.

How To Get More Money In Your Treasury

To build up your treasury, you should set up taxes in your territories. Taxes can be set when you have a manor placed. From the manor's informational panel, you can then set a land tax. This will turn a percentage of the regional wealth into money for your treasury. If the taxes are set too high though, your villagers may become unhappy.

You can check the predicted approval loss at the bottom of the screen. Don't be intimidated by this approval loss though; if you provide for your villagers in other ways (such as food, fuel, and clothing), then they should still be happy. A ten percent land tax will only result in an approval loss of four.

Clearing Bandit Camps For A Reward

Manor Lords: How To Make Money

When you clear a bandit camp, you will have two options to choose from. First, you can claim the reward for yourself; this will provide money for your treasury. The second option is to send the reward to the nearest town under your control.

Doing this will put money into the town's regional wealth, which can then be used for trading. While clearing a bandit camp isn't a reliable source of money, it's a great way to gain either regional wealth or treasury money periodically.
