Tips And Tricks For Venture
Venture's Role As A DPS
While every DPS character in the game specializes in dealing damage, Venture thrives the most in -range combat against squishy targets. Venture is also a hero that relies heavily on their abilities to deal damage, so the Smart Excavator's primary fire only serves to supplement their damage while these abilities are on cooldown.
Venture plays similarly to other assassin DPS characters in the game, capable of moving around the map quickly and dispatching targets with their ability combos. While Venture's abilities can help you the distance between you and your enemies, they can also offer a free escape if you bite off more than you can chew.
Keep in mind that although Venture does excel at picking off weaker characters, they are not stealthy whatsoever, so don't expect to get the drop on someone from the underground.
Overall, Venture struggles the most against characters that can deal damage from a safe distance, such as Widowmaker, Hanzo, Ashe, Solider: 76, and Sojourn. Since Venture is only capable of dealing damage at or medium range, they will need to use their abilities to the distance against these enemies, or risk getting picked off.
Negate Heavy Damage By Becoming Invulnerable
Every eight seconds, Venture can use their Burrow ability to travel under the ground for four seconds, making them completely invulnerable from damage and clearing many negative status effects. Although this ability makes up a massive amount of Venture's damage output, you can always use it to avoid dangerous situations, such as escaping from a D.Va ultimate or protecting yourself after getting hit by Ana's Biotic Grenade.
Burrow cleanses many of the negative status effects in the game, such as Zenyatta's Discord Orb. Furthermore, successfully burrowing under the ground will cause sticky grenades, such as Tracer's Pulse Bomb or Cassidy's Magnetic Grenade to fall off Venture and deal no damage.
Combining both of Venture's abilities can also help you escape dangerous situations, such as using Drill Dash under the ground to move even further. You can also use Drill Dash to launch yourself into the air, then immediately fly back towards the ground by activating Burrow.
Practice Your Spacing
Venture is one of the few DPS characters that can not deal any damage from a long distance, so it is incredibly important to learn how to space yourself correctly. In Overwatch 2, spacing refers to your character's placement in any given fight, such as playing with your tank or flanking around the enemy to pick off weaker targets.
Venture's primary fire is most similar to Sigma's Hypersphere's, meaning that each shot will explode after traveling a certain distance. This means that you will have to space yourself r to enemies than other long-range DPS characters typically would, all to ensure that your Primary Fire can deal damage.
If you run out of ammo in the middle of a fight, remember that Venture's Burrow ability will completely reload their Primary Fire.
Venture's Ultimate Can Be Blocked
Since Venture sends out four shockwaves with their Ultimate Ability, these damaging waves can be completely negated by traveling to higher ground or deploying shields. Specifically, Venture's Ultimate shockwaves can travel up ramps or stairs, but will be blocked by taller structures, such as a Mei Wall.
Venture's Ultimate Ability is best utilized when enemies are clumped together and have little protection from barriers, such as when they are grouped by Orisa's Terra Surge or Zarya's Graviton Surge.
Furthermore, enemies that have flying abilities, namely Pharah and Echo, can easily escape this ultimate with just a click of a button, rendering the shockwaves completely useless against them. When activating this ability, we recommend picking an immobile target that you want to take out of combat, such as an Ana or Roadhog.
