Pokemon Go: 8th Anniversary Party Event Guide

Pokemon Go is celebrating its eighth anniversary since its initial launch in 2016. This year's birthday celebration will feature Grimer and its evolution Muk, the 88th entry in the Pokedex. In addition to this, there will be several bonuses and new features present during this event window.

Players will have to log in and adventure using the Pokemon Go app to fully take advantage of the Pokemon Go: 8th Anniversary Party Event, providing you with countless bonuses and event-themed features throughout its duration. There is a lot to take in, ensuring that you're taking full advantage of this event — we've got you covered.

Updated on June 27, 2024, by Christian Pellegrino: With this year's 8th Anniversary Party Event, there will be several changes from what was offered last year. Taking place from Friday, June 28, 2024, at 10am local time to Wednesday, July 3 at 8pm local time, here's everything you can expect from this six-day event.

Pokemon Debuts

Similar to other limited-time events that take place in Pokemon Go, there will be a handful of Pokemon that will be making their debut in this title. In the case of this event, these Pokemon may already be in the game, but there will be a special variant that will be offered during this event window.

For this event, both Grimer and Muk will be available wearing party hats for the first time. Throughout this event, you will have the opportunity of encountering and catching Grimer wearing a party hat as a wild encounter Pokemon and as a One-Star Raid Pokemon.

Although you won't be able to encounter Muk wearing a party hat during this event, it will still be obtainable.

Any Grimer wearing party hats that are evolved into Muk will keep their costumes.

Mystery Boxes

During this event, you will be able to open Mystery Boxes more frequently, allowing you to obtain more Meltan from them. Additionally, the Meltan you obtain through Mystery Boxes will have the chance of being Shiny.

Event Bonuses

Pokemon Go: 8th Anniversary Party Event Guide

There will be several event bonuses available throughout this event. Some of these bonuses will be available throughout the entire duration of this event, each provided for you below.

  • Higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends with other Trainers.
  • Higher chance of obtaining Lucky Pokemon from trades.
  • Sending Gifts, trading Pokemon, and battling with friends will increase your Friendship Level faster.
  • Spinning PokeStops with Golden Lure Modules will have the chance of providing you with eight or 88 Gimmighoul Coins.

On top of this, there will be one additional bonus available each day. Each of these bonuses can be found below with the specific days that they will be active.

During this event, there will be several Pokemon appearing in the wild more than they usually do. In the case of this event, certain Pokemon will only have their spawn rate increased on certain days of the Anniversary Party Event.

Event Raid Pokemon

Pokemon Go: 8th Anniversary Party Event Guide

During the 8th Anniversary Party Event, there will be different Pokemon found in Raids than those you are typically used to. All of these event Raid Pokemon will be found in One-Star Raids, the lowest difficulty when it comes to different types of Raids.

These five event-themed One-Star Raid Pokemon includes:

  • Grimer wearing a party hat
  • Bulbasaur wearing a party hat
  • Squirtle wearing a party hat
  • Charmander wearing a party hat
  • Pikachu wearing a cake hat

Event Research

Event Field Research

During this event, you will be able to complete different EventField Research Tasks, obtained from different PokeStops.

Completing some of these tasks will reward you with Pokemon encounters, giving you the chance to catch different starter Pokemon from various Pokemon generations. This includes Pokemon like Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, and Mudkip.

Additionally, completing other Event Field Research Tasks will reward you with Mega Energy, a resource needed to Mega Evolve different Pokemon. This includes Mega Energy for:

  • Sceptile
  • Blaziken
  • Swampert
  • Venusaur
  • Charizard
  • Blastoise

Free Timed Research

All players who log into Pokemon Go during the 8th Anniversary Party Event will be given free Timed Research to complete. Doing so will provide you with various in-game rewards, including Stardust, XP,and encounters with the following event-themed Pokemon:

  • Nidorino wearing a party hat
  • Raticate wearing a party hat
  • Wobbuffet wearing a party hat
  • Meltan

Since this is Timed Research, you will only have until the end of this event to complete this Timed Research.

There will also be Paid Timed Research available for purchase during this event. It will cost $2.00 USD at the Pokemon Go in-game shop, requiring you to complete a variety of tasks having to do with the number eight, like spinning eight PokeStops or evolving eight Pokemon.

Completing these different tasks will reward you with the following in-game items.

  • One Incubator
  • One Super Incubator
  • One Premium Battle Pass
  • One Lucky Egg
  • One Rocket Radar
  • One Star Piece
  • One Incense
  • An encounter with Meltan
  • 88,888 XP

This Timed Research also must be completed before the conclusion of this event.

Masterwork Research Story

During this event, you will be able to purchase the Masterwork Research Story, Whisper in the Woods, for $5.00 USD at the Pokemon Go in-game shop. Completing the tasks that are part of this will reward you with different in-game rewards, including an encounter with Shiny Celebi.

Additionally, purchasers of this Masterwork Research Story, or those who have previously the Distracted by Something Shiny Special Research Story, will benefit from the following three bonuses during the 8th Anniversary Party Event.

  • Double Incense duration.
  • Double Daily Adventure Incense duration.
  • Double Lucky Egg duration.

Once purchased, you will be able to complete the Masterwork Research Story even after this event has concluded.

Avatar Items And Stickers

Pokemon Go: 8th Anniversary Party Event Guide

To further celebrate this event, there will be new Eighth Anniversary avatar items available for purchase at the in-game shop. This includes seven different Avatar items, each found below.

  • Noctowl Loose-Fitting Jacket
  • Mankey Loose-Fitting Jacket
  • Dark Gray Loose-Fitting Pants
  • Sensu Style Oricorio Hat
  • Pa'u Style Oricorio Hat
  • Pom-Pom Style Oricorio Hat
  • Baile Style Oricorio Hat

These will become available at the start of this event and will remain available after it has ended .

Additionally, there will be event-themed stickers available during the event window. Make sure to spin PokeStops, open Gifts, or purchase them from the in-game shop while you can.
