A group of Starfield fans are working on what might be the game's most ambitious mod yet: Project Tamriel. This aims to add the maps from Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind into the sci-fi RPG, "seamlessly" integrating the older Bethesda games into the latest one.
There are no screenshots right now, and the group hasn't shared any sort of timeframe on when we can expect to see some progress, but the simple fact that this is being attempted is incredible. It also joins other modding projects that aim to recreate older Bethesda games in their more modern counterparts, such as Skyblivion, which is still in development.
Fans Reveal Project Tamriel: A Starfield Creation Kit Project
"Project Tamriel is an ambitious and groundbreaking modding endeavor that aims to bring the entirety of Tamriel from The Elder Scrolls series into the expansive universe of Starfield," reads the announcement post in r/Starfield. "This project will seamlessly integrate Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind into Starfield, creating a unified and immersive experience on a single distant planet."
The post says that the completed mod will let us re-explore our "favourite Elder Scrolls locations and adventures" within Starfield, including old quests and items. It's unclear how exactly this will be pulled off, as the project seems to be incredibly large in scope right now.
The group mentions a Discord server and a website, but no links have been provided just yet. With this in mind, it sounds like the project is in its infancy, and it will be some time before we're flying to planet Tamriel in Starfield.
However, these projects can materialise. Even the ultra-ambitious Skyblivion has a release window of 2025, and it's looking great. Then, there are the mods that aim to make new games entirely, like Fallout: London, which would have been with us already if only the Fallout 4 next-gen update didn't get in the way.
It's also worth mentioning that the Creation Kit is now out for Starfield, making modding more accessible. With this in mind, we can expect to see many more mods like this now, as yet another Bethesda game attracts ambitious fans like the Project Tamriel team.
