Leon has more to worry about than killing rats in Resident Evil 4, but it is a nice way to earn some extra Spinels. So, here’s how to get them all.
The Resident Evil 4 Remake is different from the original title in several ways. One new addition is the inclusion of special Merchant requests to help out the unsettling man who sells you weapons. These are little side missions you can complete to earn some extra Spinels.
They task you with doing various different things, such as destroying blue medallions and acquiring shiny jewels from a nest. Three of the requests have you finding and killing rats. The missions are Pest Control, More Pest Control, and Even More Pest Control. Here is all the information you need to find the little animals and take them out.
I found it best to kill the rats using the Bolt Thrower or a knife. As it only takes one shot to kill them, there is no point wasting ammo.
Pest Control Rat Locations
There isn't an exact spot where the rats always stand as they continually run around. So, this guide can only show you the area in which they roam. However, the areas are generally small, so it should still be enough to guide you to their locations.
The first Pest Contol mission is found early in chapter two. The note detailing the objective is right beside the first merchant stall.
However, once you get there, you've already gone past the rats you need to slay, so head back into the Abandoned Factory.
Rat Locations
- Rat One — The first rat can be found in the long hallway with a broken wall. When you first enter this hall—before meeting the merchant—an enemy is shuffling about that you will need take out.
- Rat Two — There is a rat just outside the two broken windows you have to jump through. In the area, you will also find a broken gate and plenty of miscellaneous boxes.
- Rat Three — The last of the rats you must kill is roaming around near the outside furnaces, not far from rat two and near where you initially enter the area. Some sandbags and chopped wood are nearby, too.
More Pest Control Rat Locations
The second Pest Control mission takes place in chapters nine and ten.
You can start it once you reach the Grand Hall, which contains the headless statue you're trying to put together. Next to the statue, you can find a door and the More Pest Control request.
Rat Locations
- Rat One — The first rat for this mission can be found in the Dining Room. To enter, go through the door with the More Pest Control request next to it. The critter runs about the room but can usually be found near the entrance.
- Rat Two — You can find another rat when making your way from the Armory back to the Grand Hall after getting the head for the statue. It's in the hallway, just waiting to be killed.
- Rat Three — The third rat can only be slain in chapter ten once you regain control of Leon after your stint as Ashley. The creature is in the hallway on the way to the library. The hall in question has a bunch of animal heads on the walls.
Even More Pest Control Locations
The last Pest Control mission appears in chapter 14. The request is near the Merchant, whom you reach just before you get to the Cargo depot.
However, for this one, it's much more convenient to get the rats before you reach the request. After all, they're all in the Waste Disposal area, which you must make your way through before reaching the Merchant.
It isn't a problem to reach the request before killing the rats, as you can go back. However, it's easier to get the rats first.
Rat Locations
- Rat One — The first rat you encounter for the Even More Pest Control mission is running around near where you enter the main Waste Disposal area. He's on the other side of the second two-person door that you and Ashley open.
- Rat Two — To reach the second rat, you must first order Ashley to raise the bridge. Then, you can find the rat on the other side of the bridge. The animal is typically behind the wall.
- Rats Three And Four — The last two rats are in the same area. After you've crossed the bridge Ashley raised for you, gone through the office, and crossed the next bridge, you will find two rats in the area with the power switcher.
