Rise Of The Ronin: Fumi Sugi Bond Guide

One character from Rise of the Ronin who deserves more credit is Fumi Sugi. At the beginning of the campaign, she's introduced as Shoin Yoshida's sister and Genzui Kusaka's wife. Yet, despite her relationship with the anti-shogunate cause, the men in her life encourage her to stay out of the conflict, fearing for her safety. Then, she is taken hostage by the Blue Demon.

Watching Fumi Sugi succumb to the "damsel in distress" trope feels stale. If you take the time to know her, you'll learn that Fumi is an intelligent, intuitive, and courageous individual who can think and act for herself. Where Can I Find Fumi Sugi?

Fumi Sugi is part of the Choshu clan. So, naturally, you'll find her at Rise of the Ronin's three Choshu bases. You'll also want to visit these spots if you wish to bond with other Choshu characters, like Kogoro Katsura and Shinsaku Takasugi.

Fumi Sugi does not appear in Sakura Inn until Master Shoin is imprisoned by the shogunate in the latter half of Chapter 1.

How Can I Get Fumi Sugi To Visit My Longhouse?

You can compel Fumi Sugi to visit your longhouse by redecorating via the Remodel menu. Place the following accessories on your display shelf:

What Gifts Does Fumi Sugi Like?

Fumi Sugi's interests include plants and incense, Western confections, and cats. You're sure to earn her admiration if you visit her bearing these gifts:

• Milk Chocolate
• Tamaki Ball
• Knot of Destiny

You can purchase gifts from Traders and Black Marketeers. Additionally, you can receive gift items via enemy drops, mission rewards, cat concierge missions, and pilgrim dog voyages.

How Else Can I Bond With Fumi Sugi?

While Fumi Sugi is a significant character in Rise of the Ronin, she plays more of a supporting role than other anti-shogunate characters like Ryoma Sakamoto or Genzui Kusaka. Besides gift-giving and conversation, you can complete a Bond Mission to become r to her.

Bond Missions

Bond missions are character-driven sub-missions that reveal new details about their lives. Completing them earns you coins, karma, and other rewards. Fumi Sugi has one Bond Mission you can play once you reach Chapter 3.

Can I Romance Fumi Sugi?

You probably assumed you could not romance Fumi because of her marriage to Genzui Kusaka. However, that is not the case. You can form a Veiled Vow with Fumi Sugi if you meet certain story conditions. Open the expandable box to learn more.

1. After the Strange Bedfellows mission in Chapter 2, a betrayal among the ranks of the Roshigumi will prompt a significant decision. You must choose to permanently align yourself with the Pro-Shogunate or Anti-Shogunate faction. Choose Pro-Shogunate .
2. Complete The Forbidden Gate Rebellion mission and defeat Genzui Kusaka. The dishonored Kusaka will take his own life.
3. Complete the Last Wishes Bond Mission.
4. Fill Fumi Sugi's Favour Gauge and speak with her at the Choshu Clan Kyoto Estate to form a Veiled Vow.

What Are Fumi Sugi's Bond Bonuses?

Fumi Sugi doesn't have many bond bonuses. However, she's a great character to know if you wish to improve your charm-related skills. Bonding with Fumi also unlocks new armor, a new weapon, and a new gesture.
