You’ve just gotten married in Stardew Valley! Now, it’s time to enjoy the brief honeymoon period.
So, you've just gotten married, and for some reason, your spouse is angry and lying in bed all day. Not even a week after saying 'I do', you're already experiencing some turmoil! Thanks to update 1.6 of Stardew Valley, you don't have to worry about this any longer.
Prior to this update, it was possible for your spouse to be immediately upset and bedridden after marriage, but with the 'honeymoon' period, this is no longer a problem. Here, we are going to take a look at what the honeymoon period is, as well as why your spouse may have been upset in the first place.
What Is The Honeymoon Period?
For seven days after marriage, the honeymoon period will be active. During this time, your spouse will not "lay in bed all day due to being upset", in ConcernedApe's words. Why would this happen though?
There are 14 total hearts that you can have with a spouse, but right after marriage, you will be at ten hearts with them. This is 'low' when compared to 14 hearts, which causes your spouse to be upset and stay in bed all day long.
To fix this, the honeymoon period was added to the game. Rather than being sad, your spouse will continue as normal. During this seven-day period, your spouse can still accept gifts and be talked to, so we highly suggest doing so.
If you give your spouse a hated gift during this period, they still won't like it. Overall, the honeymoon period is meant to avoid this ten to 14 heart discrepancy ; it's not a pass to be mean to your spouse.
What Happens After The Honeymoon Period?
After seven days, your spouse can eventually get upset and spend all day in bed. This isn't ideal, so try to give your spouse gifts occasionally and speak to them every day. If you talk to them enough times in one day, then the two of you will kiss!
