The Desert Trader And The Sword
There are two uses for Prismatic Shards in the Desert. You can actually find Prismatic Shards in the Skull Cavern and immediately exit to use them.
The Galaxy Sword
The first, and most well-known, use for a single Prismatic Shard is to use it to conjure the Galaxy Sword. There are three pillars in the Desert just above the Desert Trader's tent. You will notice a circle in the sand in the middle of these pillars. Step over that circle and a very short cutscene will play. When it's completed, your farmer will be holding the Galaxy Sword.
After unlocking the Galaxy Sword, you will be able to purchase other Galaxy weapons from Marlon at the Adventurer's Guild .
The Desert Trader
Once you've received your Galaxy Sword, and once you have multiple Prismatic Shards, head to the Desert Trader. Along with many other goods, the Desert Trader sells Magic Rock Candy. He asks for three Prismatic Shards for this food item. Magic Rock Candy gives you five buffs after consuming it:
- Mining +2
- Luck +5
- Speed +1
- Defense +5
- Attack +5
This makes it one of the most powerful food items in the game. So, when you have at least three Prismatic Shards, trade them for this Desert treat.
The Desert Trader only sells Magic Rock Candy on Thursdays .
Donate To The Museum
Donating to Gunther should be the second thing you do with an extra Prismatic Shard. Much like with Dinosaur Eggs, the first shard you find, you keep to turn into a Galaxy Sword. Only after that do you donate to Gunther. This will help fill, and ultimately complete, the Museum.
You can decide to never donate a shard, but even if your goal isn't to complete the Museum, donating to Gunther continues to unlock more rewards. You have to donate 60 items before you can meet Krobus. And, after you've donated 90 items, Gunther will give you a Magic Rock Candy. So you will want to hand over one of your Prismatic Shards to him.
The Missing Bundle
If you have not completed the Joja Route and have instead completed all the bundles for the Community Center, there will be one more bundle that appears in the abandoned Joja Mart. That is the Missing Bundle.
There are six items you can choose from to fill five slots to complete the Missing Bundle. One of the items you can give to the Juminos is a Prismatic Shard. You don't have to use a Prismatic Shard to complete this bundle. However, if you have extras, it will be easier and more cost-effective to use one of your shards.
- Donating Caviar, five gold quality Ancient Fruit, or silver quality Wine will cut into your profits
- A Prismatic Shard sells for 2,000g or 2,600g with the Gemologist profession.
- A Fish Pond, which is required to make Caviar, costs 5,000g to construct.
- Five gold Ancient Fruits can be sold outright for 4,125g or 4,535g with the Tiler profession.
- And silver quality Wine, while can sell for as little as 18g if using a Salmonberry, takes 14 days to craft in a cask. Casks can only be unlocked by upgrading your home multiple times, which will cost you 175,000g.
So, considering all things, using the Prismatic Shard will cost you less than these three other options.
The Dark Shrine Of Selfishness
This ominous-sounding shrine makes use of a Prismatic Shard each time you use it.
This shrine is located in the Witch's Hut, which will be accessible to you after completing the Dark Talisman quest. What does the shrine do? After you've married one of the bachelors or bachelorettes in Stardew Valley, you'll have the option to have or adopt children with them.
If you decide you don't want the children after already agreeing to have them with your spouse, you can give one Prismatic Shard to the Shrine of Selfishness. This will turn your children into doves. As they fly away, it removes them from the game permanently.
The Forge
At the top of the Volcano Dungeon on Ginger Island is the Forge. When you first reach the top, there is a chest that holds a single Prismatic Shard.
The Forge allows you to combine rings but also to enchant your tools. To give your tools an enchantment, you will need to use a Prismatic Shard each time you do. You can also use a Prismatic Shard to enchant a melee weapon.
You cannot enchant your Scythe or Trash Can in this way. That includes the Gold and Iridium Scythes.
Along with costing a Prismatic Shard, this also costs 20 Cinder Shards each time you use it. Enchantments are randomized, so you will want to bring many Prismatic Shards with you if you'd like to get a certain enchantment for your tools and weapon(s).
Junimo Huts
Want to see a cool trick? If you have constructed Junimo Huts on your farm, place a Prismatic Shard inside.
To construct a Junimo Hut, you will have needed to, again, completed the Dark Talisman quest. On completion, The Wizard will have a magical tome with different buildings and items he can construct for you, including the Junimo Huts.
It takes 200 Stone, 100 Fiber, and nine Starfruit to have one built. When it is, Junimos will leave the hut to harvest any crops you have placed around them. If you place a Prismatic Shard in their hut, Junimos will continuously change colors to match the rainbow of the shard. This can be done for multiple huts.
Tailoring
Once you're able to use Emily's Sewing Machine, or she has gifted you one after completing the Rock Rejuvenation special order, you can place a Prismatic Shard in the spool in order to make one of five Prismatic clothing items.
These are:
- Prismatic Shirt
- Prismatic Shirt with White Sleeves
- Prismatic Shirt with Black Sleeves
- Prismatic Pants
- Prismatic Genie Pants
These clothing items will behave similarly to the Junimos, in which they cycle through the colors of the rainbow magically.
There is no guarantee what order these clothes will be made in. That means you may get duplicates, and that can happen before you've tailored each of the five.
Gifting
If you've done everything above that you've wanted to do, then gifting your extra Prismatic Shards is a great use. Prismatic Shards are loved by everyone, except for Hayley, who hates them. If you haven't reached max hearts with everyone in Stardew Valley, gift them your extra, unwanted shards.
To maximize their effect , gift Prismatic Shards on the Birthdays of the people of Stardew Valley.
Selling
If you've done everything above, including gifting Prismatic Shards to the villagers of the Valley, sell your extra shards.
These will bring you 2,000 to 2,600g for each shard you sell, meaning a major paycheck if selling multiple at a time.
Do this only after you've used all the shards you've wanted to.
Wedding Ring
This is one more use for Prismatic Shards that you can only access if playing in Multiplayer. That is to craft a Wedding Ring with one.
To get the crafting recipe, you will purchase it from the Traveling Merchant for 500g. Once you do, you will need five Iridium Bars as well as one Prismatic Shard.
This functions like the Mermaid's Pendant. When you present this to another player, they can choose to accept or refuse the ring. If accepted, a wedding ceremony will take place three days after the proposal.
If there is an event or Green Rainy Day at the time you would have your marriage ceremony, it will instead happen on the next day.
The Wedding Ring sells for 1,000g and it can be equipped like other rings, but it gives no benefit to your farmer.
