Learn how to start a tenant revolt in The Sims 4!
Becoming a good tenant is easy to do when you play The Sims 4: For Rent. Paying rent on time, taking care of your unit, and generally not trashing the place is all you need to do to make sure you're the best tenant you can be.
However, being the best tenant you can be doesn't mean that your landlord can't fall short. Just like in real life, your Sims' landlord can fall short of plenty of duties. Once they've failed your Sims one too many times, your Sims have the option to demand better conditions with the help of a Tenant Revolt.
What Is A Tenant Revolt?
A Tenant Revolt is a social event in which Sims can demand better conditions from their landlords. Landlords are supposed to take care of the rental unit, such as pest control, broken appliances, and plumbing problems.
If the landlord fails to solve these issues, or the apartment is just low enough value, you can talk to other residents and incite a Tenant Revolt. These will only have one goal, to ask for better conditions from the property owner, and the goal is that the rental unit will improve in ratings.
How To Incite A Tenant Revolt
To begin a Tenant Revolt, your Sim's rental unit needs to have a low enough rating. This is typically a two-star rating, but you can try a higher one if you want. Once conditions are poor enough, have your Sim talk to another renter. Once you click on them, choose Rental, and then Incite a Tenant Revolt.
If your neighbor agrees conditions are poor enough, they will join you in the Tenant Revolt, and all your neighbors with poor enough living conditions will join the protest.
To have a low enough rating, the unit needs to have problems; this can be that the landlord is not resolving the issues listed above, such as pest control or broken appliances. The rating can also be low due to the apartment being small, or run down enough.
You can always check the rental rating from the Manage Worlds screen, or by opening the Tenant Agreement.
You can open your Sim's Tenant Agreement by clicking on their phone, choosing the Home app, and selecting S how Tenant Agreement. This will show you not only the unit's rating, but also the rules, amenities, and cost of rent.
How To Complete A Tenant Revolt
The Tenant Revolt is a timed event, so you need to finish all the tasks before the time runs out to have a successful revolt. Luckily, you're given twelve in-game hours before the timer runs out, and you'll only have one task you need to complete, which is to ask for better conditions from your landlord.
During the revolt, your Sims can protest the conditions to draw attention; click on your Sim during the revolt, and chooseProtest About Conditions. This will have your Sim, and their neighbors, use megaphones and picket signs outside.
You'll want to bring the landlord to the lot during the revolt to ask for improved conditions. Your Sim will automatically know their landlord as soon as they move into the rental unit, but you can always check who they are in the Tenant Agreement and invite them over to the lot.
You can then demand improvements; click on the landlord, and choose Ask for Better Conditions. Your Sim and the landlord will begin to negotiate, and if the negotiations are successful, the rental unit's rating will improve.
However, this won't guarantee that the problems will be solved. If your landlord continues to neglect the units, your Sims can revolt again, and there are no limits to how many times your Sims can begin a revolt.
